Of course it was Splash. If the kitten hadn't been a nightmare before, it certainly was now that it was growing—but he couldn't think about that right now. Not with Sloane here, and with the clock ticking before one of the others arrived for practice. He shrugged, pretending not to know, but keeping the unconvincing was fun for only a short time.
"I may have given them the wrong time. I'm not sure," he said, taking a step towards her. Figuring out how to navigate their feelings with the boundaries naturally set by their age and circumstance, especially when those feelings overlapped with three years of friendship, was a difficult task, but it would hopefully be easier to do with a few extra minutes of alone time. "I think I told them to be here in, hmm..." He finally came to stand in front of her and helped pull the broomstick off her shoulder. He tossed it to the ground near his own before turning to smile at her. "Fifteen minutes or so? I've never been too good at planning." It wasn't much time, but he hadn't wanted to draw any unwanted attention. Maybe he should have asked them to come a little later.
