Look, it was now or never, wasn't it? The first week or so of classes had confirmed to Nelson that, solid as he was in some subjects, scraping through with even passes in others was... not hopeful. With any luck, he wouldn't fail out: but if he did, he certainly wanted to have gotten onto the quidditch team first. (If he didn't fail out, he needed quidditch to be a welcome distraction from his classes.)
His friends, though many of them Ravenclaws, were, by and large, not the quidditch sort. He hoped they didn't judge him too harshly for trying out. He hoped the captain, Miss Weasley, didn't judge him too harshly. Surely he had to be better than these first and second-years?
