The problem was actually on Luke's part, but no one knows that.

History:

1856: Naomi is born the first child and girl. Her parents begin praying even harder for a boy. They are gonna get more than they bargained for.

1862: Their prayers are answered in the form of Zerah.

1865: And again with Judah.

1866: And again with Abiel.

1867: Naomi begins Hogwarts and is sorted into Slytherin.

1868: And yet again with Jethro. They start praying for another girl, but not nearly as hard. Naomi begins to distance herself from the church, mentally. It's easier at school. She just... doesn't believe.

1870: OK, time to pray a bit harder for that girl. Still, the couple learned their lesson already. Welcome to the world, Micah.

1872: Finally, another girl. Sherah is born as the youngest daughter and seventh child in a long line of church goers.

1873: Zerah starts Hogwarts.

1874: Naomi graduates from Hogwarts. Her beliefs are revealed to her parents when she requests not to go to church multiple times. At first it is the 'I am feeling rather unwell, and would not wish to spread illness'. But the excuses start to fade as the family begins to suspect. Finally an argument ensues between parents and daughter. This is the first of many.

Noah is born. They pray to not have anymore boys. God dammit, they want another girl. Naomi begins being courted by Mr. Hertz.

1877: Abiel and Judah start Hogwarts. Naomi and her family are unaffected by the muggle riots. Actually, it's a good year for Naomi. Engaged, then married. The terms of her parents to agree to this union is that Naomi names her children religious names. Fair enough, Naomi doesn't see the point in bringing any more tension into the family relationship. By some miracle luck, her new husband agrees.

1880: Zerah graduates. Jethro then begins Hogwarts the following school year. It took quite a while, but Naomi finally has their first child. A boy named Mordecai.

1882: Micah is off to Hogwarts. Due to lack of spawn, her parents come back in full force on the topic of Naomi going to church, more intensely than normal. The fights are worse until the point where Naomi cuts contact with her parents. Some of her siblings still receive periodic letters.

1883: Sherah starts at Hogwarts.

1884: Abiel and Judah leave Hogwarts in May, and then. Far too long of an age gap for Naomi's liking, but she finally produces a girl named Adah.

1887: Jethro leaves Hogwarts.

July 9, 1887: Luke dies via being crushed by falling rubble, leaving Naomi a widow. She stays in her husband's home, and it was thankfully left to her and her children as well as a good enough allowance to continue their lifestyle for at least a few years. The in-laws are great at helping out as well.

1888: Noah joins Sherah at Hogwarts.

1889: Micah graduates unlike his half-breed peers who were the same year as him until recently.

July 20, 1889: Naomi meets Mr. Martin Ruskin. They seem like a reasonable match, and both have children of the opposite gender with no parental figure to help figure that stuff out.

August 8, 1889: Officially courting, the couple agrees to wait until the Ruskin girls are in Hogwarts to tell them so they hopefully restrain themselves from making a scene over the matter. It was Naomi's idea.
