3rd April, 1888Dear Miss Lestrange,I had not had reason to come across the article in question, though in hindsight I do rather suspect my sister-in-law has been hinting at its content for the past few days, so I thank you for enlightening me. It is a curious thing in one’s character to wish to know of the slander hurled against it but forearmed is forewarned so I am grateful for your kindness in sending me a copy.
I need hardly say that it is not worth the paper it is printed upon and even the veela of the world are done an injustice by its second rate excuse for journalism, but I fear you too have fallen prey to its libel. Having procured the remainder of the issue from Ursula I was surprised to see your name mentioned in relation to the second Mr Crouch who, to the best of my understanding, lives in the shadow of one brother whilst trying to shield the other. I hope if any connection exists that he is much more than he appears to be for your sake, his blood and position only allow for him to be tolerable, as you know it takes quite a bit more to be admirable in my eyes and as you are included in that small group I wish only the best for you.
Perhaps our paths will cross at Mrs Mulciber’s upcoming auction? I have recently discovered quite an interesting tome on the ancient magic of the Chinese but I suspect the items will likely be more of a decorative than curious nature!
