Appearance:

Akash is wholly average. He stands at five feet, seven inches tall and has a build that is neither skinny nor exceptionally fit. He has dark skin and a clear complexion, save for a number of bumps and scars on his jaw from poor shaving. He has dark, wavy hair and dark eyes, and has mostly given up on the clean-shaven look since becoming a full-time healer. While frequently found in his work robes, Akash dresses similar to other working class men outside home. He wields his wand with his right hand.

History:

1864 | Akash is born on a stormy night in the back room of his family's shop. His father, a former merchant and devout Christian, fell on hard times following he and his wife's journey from India to Britain and chose to capitalize on British fascination with Indian culture by up opening a shop rather than pursuing his scholarly ambitions. The family lived decently enough with money coming in, but there was always a lingering fear of illness or death that would thrust the family into absolute poverty.

1870 | The Patil family welcome a daughter named Hinda. Even at the age of four, Akash is insistent that she is his baby and is very protective of her around strangers, his father's customers, and even — at times — his own parents. His protectiveness does not ebb with age.

1872 | Another babe joins the family, but dies of weak lungs before they're even given a name. Akash was never told if the baby was a son or a daughter or if it was even given a name. Even in adulthood he's still afraid to ask, as his parents never speak of their loss.

1873 | Akash decides, seemingly out of the blue, that he wants to be a doctor. He becomes obsessed with the idea, pretending to read medical texts that are far too advanced for his age and pretending to tend to his sister when she scrapes a knee or comes down with a cough. He can't explain why he wants to be a doctor; he only knows that he does.

Summer, 1875 | While attending classes at the local schoolhouse, Akash receives a visit from someone claiming to be a representative of "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry". Someone who claims to be a wizard. Someone who claims that Akash is also a wizard. Naturally, he believes this to be some cruel prank pulled by the local boys who mock his appearance and his family, but he is swiftly disproven when the man pulls out his wand and preforms a spell.

Fall, 1875 | He goes to Hogwarts in September and is sorted into Hufflepuff. Apart from spells and potions and flying on a broomstick, Akash learns that the wizarding world is very different — and, in many aspects, very separate — from the outside world. While being a doctor was a silly dream for the son of a simple shop-owner, being a healer isn't as much. He makes it a goal, though still lacks the knowledge of how exactly to become one.

1876 | By the beginning of his second year, Akash has firmly been labeled an outsider by many of his classmates. He's not weird, or at least he thinks he isn't, but he's not as eloquent or charming or athletic or interesting as many of them. He can count his friends on one hand, and classroom acquaintances on two, but he's content. Mostly.

1877 | Akash is introduced to The Church during the beginning of his third year by a girl he meets in Care of Magical Creatures class. She's sweet enough and he only listens to her talk about her beliefs because of his budding crush on her, but he eventually begins justifying his own existence using her brand of Christianity rather than his parents'. Christianity where magic is a gift makes much more sense to being doomed to Hell for magical abilities he can't control, right?

1878 | Akash's mother gives birth to another son, Arnav, while he's away at school. He doesn't get to meet his brother until the babe is nearly six-months-old, but he's excited nevertheless.

1879 | Akash's involvement in the Church grows when he's gifted with a pamphlet of their beliefs, along with an invitation to attend one of their services during the summer. Given that his own parents are muggles and transportation is difficult to come by, Akash is accompanied to the service by a school acquaintance whose family offered to take him. It marks the first time he uses a portkey — and the last.

Spring, 1880 | Akash sits for his OWLs. He later receives his results: four Os and two Es, which is enough to earn him a full scholarship for the next year. Akash's parents allow him to continue on the grounds that he repay them for the supplies following his graduation.

Fall, 1880 | Akash continues his sixth year with five classes: Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions, Charms, and Transfiguration. Minimizing his course load increases his chance of good NEWT grades, he reasons. Healers don't need anything more.

1881 | Spending so much time away from the family meant Akash had little opportunity to recognize the signs that his own sister was a witch until the day one of his own professors arrived at his doorstep. Shocked but excited, Akash takes the opportunity to tell Hinda everything he's learned about the magical world. She joins him at Hogwarts in September on a first-year scholarship.

Summer, 1882 | Following his NEWT examination and graduation from Hogwarts, Akash spends the summer helping his parents around their shop while waiting for his grades to arrive. They do, and suddenly Akash is no longer just a shop-owner's boy with no chance for a better future, but a healer's intern at St. Mungo's. He finds his home in the Potion & Plant Poisoning department, citing his solid 'O's in Herbology and Potions, and begins — slowly — paying his parents back for two years of school supplies.

1883 | Akash begins attending regular Church services in Hogsmeade every Sunday. He completes his internship in August and becomes a full healer. While his income allows him to move into his own place, he opts to remain with his parents for the time being.

1884 | When the plague strikes Hogsmeade, Akash is far away from the quarantine zone and feels absolutely helpless. He spends time in Irvingly and the surrounding relatives, doing his best to offer words of comfort to relatives and friends who have ill — or worse, dying — relatives.

1887 | When chaos breaks out at the Wizarding World Market, Akash is among the healers who handles the injured. Years of medical training helps handle the gory sights he's faced with, but at times he finds himself overwhelmed with the sheer number of patients entering the hospital.

1889 | By the time his twenty-fifth year arrives, Akash has firmly decided that the magical world is infinitely more exciting than the muggle world. He moves into his own apartment in London, having long paid off any debt to his parents, and looks towards the future.
