Appearance:
Dark brown hair. Hazel eyes. She's so plain, and that's just how she likes it. There would be nothing more inconvenient than attracting unwanted attention by being too attractive or being so hideous that no one would give her a second glance. Her facial features are slightly asymmetrical, and although she possesses fine feminine curves, she does little to highlight it with her attire. She dresses in plain dresses (or her robes while at work!) and wields her wand with her right hand.
History:
1865 | Born to an elderly widower who believed he would go to the grave alone and a former spinster who never believed she'd make a good wife, Peony was loved from the moment she entered the world.

1868 | The birth of her younger sister, Poppy Pokeby, brings a number of attention-seeking tantrums—and, on one occasion, an attempt to rid of the newborn with a wooden toy horse to the head. These outbursts, combined with open defiance against her parents, result in a number of lashes. The punishments do nothing but exacerbate the issues, but her mother hopes that she'll grow out of her behavioral issues.

1870 | She does not. By the time her youngest sister is born, Peony has picked a handful of fights with the village boys and has smacked another girl on more than one occasion. It isn't until her first sign of magic makes an appearance, which results in the neighbor's daughter's hair being burnt right off her head, that Mr. and Mrs. Pokeby decide that changes must be made.

1871 | Peony is sent to live with her grandmother in London until she pulls herself together. There, under the guidance of a more understanding authority figure, Peony slowly learns to control her temper. She finds city life more exciting than rural life and finds a number of hobbies to keep herself entertained.

1874 | The sudden death of her grandmother leaves Peony distraught and scattered. Being away for so long leaves Peony feeling like a stranger in her own home, and the added confusion and sense of loss only helps catapult her into a melancholic state. She soon decides that Ireland is not the place for her and that she will do whatever is necessary to return to London.

1876 | Peony finds herself comfortable at Hogwarts and in Slytherin. While she struggles to make friends among her housemates, she has less difficulty earning the praise of her professors.

1878 | The addition of Ancient Runes, Ancient Studies, and Care of Magical Creatures temporarily quenches her thirst for knowledge. At the end of the year, she has earned her first full scholarship after her report shows a full row of Os and Es.

1879 | With a scholarship to maintain and a year into her OWL studies, Peony rarely spends anytime for social and leisurely activities. Her holiday break is spent at Hogwarts, and she makes sure to grab a reading list from the fifth years before returning home for the summer.

1881 | OWL examinations come. Deep breath. She spends countless hours hauled up in the library with study groups comprised of students she's never bothered to converse with before, and—although she would never admit it—even re-purposed an old pass to the Astronomy tower to get some late-night studying in.

Unfortunately, things don't go as planned. Two unexpected As result in the termination of her full scholarship and her education. Depressed and distressed, she secures a job at the Ministry and moves from her parents' home to a one-room flat in London. Being too young to use magic, her options are limited. She ends up in the Department of Magical Games and Sports, but does not find the environment welcome to "her sort"—young, working class, and female. She struggles to make friends among her coworkers, and those who do make the time to talk with her question how she could be interning there without solid career goals.

1885 | After a rather explosive argument ensues between her and a male coworker, Peony is taken aside by a superior and is quietly pressured into secretarial work. An organized and calculating mind means filing, sorting, and scheduling suits her, but it's also below her educational level and she cannot stand the snide comments that come her way. Half a dozen warnings and a threat of termination later, Peony learns to hold her tongue out of fear of losing her job, and therefore her home and future.

1887 | Two years later, still in a slump and with no clear path to a happier future, Peony uses the election of Minister Justin Ross to change that. She becomes his secretary, rather than having to handle an insufferable bunch of wannabes and has-beens. At worst, she'll be stuck there; at best, she might forge advantageous connections. She becomes friendlier overnight.

1889 | She's still a secretary, but it's fine. She'll get to where she needs to be—she's only twenty-three.

❧ Has a "I'll do as I please" attitude—unless you sign her paycheck, of course.
