Mathias stands only slightly taller than average at five feet, nine inches tall and has a somewhat lanky build. His complexion is clear and only slightly tanned from his love of leisurely sports. He has dark, curly brown hair that he tries to keep short to avoid out-of-control curls. His eyes are a similar shade of brown. Overall, he looks far more like his dark-haired mother than his fair-haired father—traits that his sisters inherited instead. He dresses in well-tailored, high-quality clothes meant for men of his status. He is left-handed.

Birth & Britain

September, 1856 | Mathias Beaumont IV is born the eldest child and first son of Mathias Beaumont III and his wife, Cassandra Beaumont.

November, 1856 | A year of planning comes to fruition when the Beaumont family move from their large estate in Chambéry, France to British country home in the Welsh countryside. Though their nearby home lacked many people—let along magical people—they found friends with other purebloods on the Isles.

Childhood

1860 | At the age of four, Mathias' first sign of magic makes an appearance. It isn't celebrated in the household in the ways many families would celebrate a child's first sign of magic, as Mathias' parents had a stubborn amount of certainty that their firstborn son would be a wizard.

1862 | Mathias is given a sister named Francoise. Though squirmy and female, the lonely six-year-old spends a large amount of time just observing her. He grows very protective of her when the nanny decides to take them outside of the home, and he often complains that "You didn't wrap her tight enough!" or "She's going to get hot if you put that hat on in this weather!". Basically #ProtectiveOlderBrother.

1866 | Oceane is born. Mathias is decidedly less interested in her, having given most of his attention to Francoise in the years prior. At this point, he's more interested in making friends than dealing with babies.

Hogwarts Years

1868 | Mathias goes off to Hogwarts a few weeks shy of his twelfth birthday. He is sorted into Slytherin with one of his friends, Warwick Nott, and begins his education with an intense focus on his schoolwork. He's one of the least sociable members of his friend group, finding most people to be absolutely draining.

1869 | Anais is born during the summer after his first year. He doesn't give it much thought, letting his mother and the various nurses handle the newborn.

1870 | Mathias adds Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, and Ancient Studies to his schedule.

1871 | Mathias somehow manages to get on the quidditch team as a chaser, but isn't very enthusiastic about it as the year goes by. He finds that team quidditch is much too aggressive for his taste and would rather watch from the sidelines. Nevertheless, he does his best and doesn't quit during the year.

1872 | Mathias receives a prefect badge in the mail, which surprises him. He decides not to return to the quidditch team, which doesn't seem to surprise him or anyone else, really.

1873 | In the autumn following his OWL examinations, Francoise joins Mathias at Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw. While initially disappointed, he grows to accept that his sister has her own identity.

Spring, 1875 | Mathias graduates from Hogwarts and goes off to... do nothing. Really. He'd pondered on a career for so long, but had realized that the only ones that seemed entertaining were (1) too dangerous for his parents to allow it, (2) not respectable enough for a man of his status, or (3) not worth the effort and time.

Post-Graduation

1877 | Muggles riot, not that the Beaumonts really cares. Their home in Wales goes untouched by muggle rioters (seeing as there aren't really anybody within a five-mile radius). However, after the magical community settles into Hogsmeade, the Beaumonts figure that being around other magical folks wouldn't be too bad of an idea and buy a Wellingtonshire home. Oceane starts school in September and is sorted into Slytherin.

1880 | Mathias finds himself out of the house most days, usually at Excalibur with some of his friends. When Anais goes off to school, he doesn't even realize it until she sends a letter home saying she'd settled in. In December, Mathias finds himself making a Poor Life Choice when he beds a married woman—and not just a married one, but one he'd known from school. Later in the year, Francoise marries Stephen Flint.

1881 | Did you know Mathias was having a kid? He didn't either. When told that his one-night-stand had resulted in a pregnancy, he showed sympathy but was adamant that he had no desire to be involved with decisions regarding the child's fate or upbringing. He never learned what became of it, only suspecting it had died early on or been offed through other means. Francoise gives birth to Lavender Flint, her first child.

The Beaumont Patriarch

1883 | Mathias father passed after a sudden illness, leaving Mathias feeling empty and unfulfilled. While spending so much of his free time out of the house, he'd never realized how much affirmation and support he depended on his father for. His mourning period was spent secluded and completely away from society, with a few of his friends and family members checking in on him every now and then.

1884 | Francoise gives birth to a second child, a boy named Lionel. Mathias takes to doting on his nephew immediately, showing him more attention than he had his niece. It soothed him in a way, making him more agreeable—and especially more likely to leave the isolation of his home. Later in the year, he meets a young woman named Miss ----- and immediately finds himself infatuated with her. While they both seem to enjoy each other's company, their personalities clash in a way that makes them prone to bickering. They eventually break off their almost-courtship, leaving, leaving Mathias with unexpected heartache.

1885 | Mathias' Hogwarts best friend begins to court his younger sister, Oceane. Though initially weirded out by the thought of his friend and sister doing things in the future, he eventually accepts it, believing that his best friend would be the most trustworthy re: Oceane's dowry and treatment. After an argument with Anais during the summer, he pulls her out of school and sends her to Pendergast's School for Young Roses.

1886 | A year and a half later, Oceane gets engaged to Warwick. It's all fun and games until no one can decide on a wedding date. Warwick becomes distant, citing his father's health as a reason for this. Mathias doesn't know why they can't just, you know, get married before Warwick's father's death prolongs the engagement, but whatever. Oceane only gets older every day. On the bright side, Francoise has another daughter to dote on.

1887 | Warwick and Oceane do not get hitched this year, and people are starting to chatter about that. Mathias puts pressure on his friend, but can't seem to get any answers. He ponders on threatening to end the engagement, but decides to let things run its course because he doesn't want Oceane to hate him, nor does he want to lose his friend.

1888 | Guess what? Oceane and Warwick get married. All is well.

Small-minded | Mathias has never handled criticism very well, especially crticism about his closely-held beliefs. He tends to be very conservative in what he believes in, though can get along with people who hold differing beliefs as long as they aren't inclined to shove them down his throat.

Romantically-inclined | Mathias has a very idealized version of romance and gets very frustrated when women don't live up to his idea of what they should've been. Nevertheless, when in love, Mathias tends to give the women he cares about the sort of attention they're looking for.
