With the clock running out, the beaters were certainly hitting hard. The students in their line of fire barely stood a chance — Mohr was hit, then Gallivan, and finally the hard-hitting-but-seldom-dodging Miss Greyback took another blow. At last the clock by the scoreboard wound down and Ben blew his whistle to ground the group. He went through the fliers one by one, finding some unaccounted for powder on some of them and tallying the scores up accordingly. When all was said and done, the last flier remaining unmarked was the unassuming Miss Pucey.
