Ezra followed her eyes down to the books in his arms and he realized what she must have thought. He flushed. "Er — yes. Something besides," he said. He wasn't sure what he would and wouldn't be able to say, but he didn't need to say much with her. She understood what they were talking about without any specifics. "I've been saying things I don't mean to say," he continued — ironically surprising himself with the admission. Shut up shut up shut up, he tried to tell himself. This wasn't Rosie's problem. None of his life was her problem anymore.
