Appearance:
Simeon is rather ordinary in appearance, though does try his best to look nice. He stands at an average five feet, six inches tall and has an average build. His outfits are suitable for his class, though he does try to find the best he can afford. His hair and eyes are dark brown, and he has light stubble. He is right-handed.
History:
Childhood Years

Simeon's childhood was notably ordinary, at least compared his future friends'. He was born as the first — and eventually, the only — child to the Graves family, and while his parents adored him, they frequently left him solely under the care of a nanny. He never kept a nanny for more than a year at a time, for he would get far too attached for his mother's liking and she would replace them. In the months after his birth, parents tried for another child, but his mother suffered complications following a post-labor illness. After suffering three miscarriages over the span of two years, the couple gave up on the possibility of more children.

After this, Simeon's mother made a greater attempt to spend time with her only child out of sheer grief, but he was never too attached to her as a child. He had little friends throughout his toddler years (not that it really mattered since he wouldn't remember these years later in his life), and often spent time in the family's country home garden examining nature and the world around him. His first sign of magic didn't appear until his fifth year of life when he was behind the family home. An old, worn fountain that sat in the garden suddenly was rid of its wear and tear and began shooting water into the air again after years of being in disrepair!

When he was six years old, Simeon's father hired a tutor to teach Simeon everything he needed to know. The majority of his curriculum consisted of reading, writing, maths, and speech, though he was also taught muggle and magical history. His tutor, formerly a translator who used to travel the world with his clients, also taught him to speak French, as well as understand Latin.

Hogwarts Years

During the summer following his eleventh birthday, Simeon received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. He was beyond excited to attend school, for his home life tended to be uneventful and boring. He purchased his school supplies and beloved wand in Diagon Alley, and was shipped off to Hogwarts on September 1st.

Upon arriving at school, the sorting hat, while quickly ruling out Slytherin and Gryffindor, could not figure out whether he belonged in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. His heart was kind and his mind was pure, but he also had a thirst for knowledge and a desire to learn. Having fallen victim to the idea that Hufflepuffs were weaker, he subconsciously decided he wished to be a Ravenclaw. As such, he was sorted there.

At the beginning of school, he befriended a group of upper class boys. Soon, however, he grew appalled with their vanity and blatant disrespect for other human beings. After the boys began to pick on a group of lower class students, Simeon intervened and was greeted by the lower class boys as a friend. From then on, his friends tended to exist below him on the socioeconomic scale, much to his parent's dismay.

Academic-wise, Simeon proved to be an excellent student, though he did far better in some classes than others. His favorite was Charms, a class in which he proved he could master the material before some of the other students. He even studied on his own time to master certain OWL-level charms by the end of his second year.

During this time, Simeon grew distant from his parents. They proved less supportive of Simeon's group of friends, frequently making passive aggressive, snide comments about their apparel, accents, or manners. This frustrated the pure of heart Ravenclaw, who believed his friends were worth no less than his own family.

In his third year, Simeon picked up Muggle Studies, Ancient Studies, and Ancient Runes to add to his class schedule. Muggle Studies proved an easy O, while Ancient Runes was more challenging, but a fun sort of challenge at that. He was passed up for prefect come his fifth year, but Simeon was not all too worried about that; he had his studies and friends to entertain himself with.

During the summer between sixth and seventh year, Simeon became a less ... predictable child. His friends had long rubbed off on him, and he was less likely to believe everything his parents told him. He even became involved with a protest outside of the Ministry — something his parents heavily condemned when they found out. They forbid him from communicating with his friends, and he grew resentful, though was not prepared to disobey them.

Seventh year did come eventually though, and Simeon was reunited with his small friend group. Rather than spend the year getting into trouble, he took time to study for his NEWTs. In May, he graduated after taking NEWT exams in Ancient Runes, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, and Muggle Studies.

Post-Graduation

The end of his Hogwarts career was a very difficult time for Simeon, for he was pulled away from his friends simply because of social reasons. His parents all but forced him into a Ministry career, where he worked on the obliviator team. His liberal leanings were solidified while working in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement when he routinely heard gossip about cases that were going on. Hearing of witches getting caught with thievery because they needed to feed their children (and other stories revolving around what he considered social injustices) frustrated him to no avail, and his coworkers became victims to his weekly huffing and puffing.

In 1880, tragedy struck his family when his father passed from pneumonia. The blow to his family caused mental instability, and Simeon grew more susceptible to arguing with those he was usually very friendly with. This led to his own downfall; after his grandfather commented in a very conservative manner on an article about universal suffrage, Simeon lost his temper and engaged in a heated debate that quickly grew into an insult-filled argument. His grandfather disowned him in a fit of rage for his "outlandish, unrealistic values" (or something of that — Simeon still finds that day a little fuzzy), and he was dismissed from the house and was told not to return. His mother, who was being given her allowance from her father-in-law (who still possessed the fortune Simeon's father was meant to inherit), did not argue with his decision and quietly bid her son farewell.

Simeon fell to the middle class, but still had what his own father had left for him. He rented a small apartment in London and dicked around at his job until 1882 until he got fed up with rumors circulating about his social and financial status. He went to work with his blacksmith friend, only instead of crafting the metal pieces, he charmed it to create snitches and other magical products.

Around that time, he was introduced to a whole group of people who shared similar political beliefs as himself. They were activists in their own right, and every individual came from different backgrounds — some even similar to his own. He was not at all as educated on certain topics as some of the members were, though he always did his best to contribute to conversions.

All the while, he found himself falling hopelessly in love with one of the young ladies of the group named "Cosette". However, his inexperience with the ladies caused him to bottle his feelings and hide them, though many of his friends would frequently point out that he was so very obvious (while also trying to convince him that she returned his affections as well!). Nevertheless, he never allowed her to become aware of his love.

Recently

In 1885, Simeon received news of his mother's passing, though many years away from her left him feeling only a little upset by the news. He continued working with his blacksmith friend and even began inventing up his own spells (though he never found time to send applications to the Committee of Experimental Charms), all the while continuing to participate in his friends' antics.

Minister Urquart's resignation during the summer of 1887 left Simeon with more than enough to say. He began pondering on what the best way to make an impact was, though all he's really been doing is waiting to see what his friends want to do, as he's never been a leader. When time for the election does come, luckily a left-leaning candidate—Justin Ross—does win the election. Though the new Minister does push back against the half-breed ban, the uncertainty about the future leaves tensions high.
Personality:
Simeon is a wholly pure and good person who rarely thinks ill of others. He's very supportive, but can sometimes be irresponsibly so (supporting his friends when they make the wrong decision simply because it will make them happy). He can be utterly naive about true struggle due to his upper class upbringing, but that does not stop him from attempting to empathize with those who have been far worse off than himself. He struggled with stubbornness in his youth and was terrified of failure, but overcame that by putting on a carefree, happy attitude (and now annoyingly tells all of his friends that optimism can solve all of life's problems). He tends to ask a lot of questions about everything due to his inquisitive nature and soaks up information like a sponge. He tends to be more of a follower than a leader, but isn't one to stand on the sidelines while everyone else takes action.
Other:
Very accomplished with all sorts of charms and even keeps a journal with all his ideas for charm inventions.

☛ Fluently speaks English, French, and can understand written Latin.
