The smile on Eva's face could have been mistaken for innocent--if you squinted very hard. "Oh, I think it would have to be people," she said. Her tone was mostly innocent enough. She could have very well meant "people" as in "socializing," after all. And to be fair, she did mean that, too. So technically, no matter how Mr. Selwyn took it, it wasn't a lie.
