It barely mattered if all her reassurances were the truth – they couldn’t make him feel entirely better, no matter what she said. Elsie had still been there and had a traumatic day, and there was no way on earth he would be able to fall asleep now without imagining it in awful detail.

Tyb frowned at her, but forced his expression to soften when she put her hand to his cheek. “Okay,” he relented, because he had no choice but to trust her that she was alright, that there was nothing more to be done. He squeezed her other hand and let out a hefty breath before surrendering fully. “Let’s go to bed.”
