Jo couldn't look over at him. Soon, when the moment reset, she'd go back to pretending like she hadn't confessed to anything this serious. She'd play along with their conversation, maybe mention the navy again, until she awoke from this new nightmare. Until then, though, she couldn't bring herself to see the pity in his eyes.
