1879 - 1890
1879: margaret eve garlick is born. her arrival is a most welcome surprise to her mother, who had once been told she would never have children. she is over two decades younger than her oldest half-sibling, and three years younger than her youngest half-sibling — not that she is particularly aware of these facts as a newborn. they will, however, shape the course of her life going forward.

1882: a little brother arrives, another welcome surprise to their parents. at three years old, maggie's only really aware of the fact that there's another to share the nurse's attention with, and it is a fact she is not entirely content with for several weeks, before it's made clear that things will not be going back to the way they were.

1887: her first act of magic is rather something that draws a lot of attention — she sets herself hovering in the middle of high street while being chastised for getting mud all over her dress.

june 1890: maggie's hogwarts acceptance letter arrives. though she receives some hand-me-downs in the form of books that are still on the supply list and her oldest half-sister's old pair of dragonskin gloves, most of her supplies are new. she also receives, as a surprise, a tawny owl she names saoirse.

1890 — 1893: the first three years of maggie's education are without much incident. she makes friends. her second year sees her parents giving permission for her to try out for the quidditch team, though she doesn't achieve a position, so she signs up for club quidditch instead, which they give their permission for as well.

1893: of course, the summer of 1893 puts a damper on everything when one of her older housemates is killed at padmore park, flying through a freak storm and struck by lightning. maggie wasn't close with the older student, but she knows one of her roommates is. the flying ban prevents any quidditch pickup games in town, but that's fine for maggie, she doesn't have a position on an official team. the next school year starts with a bang.
