Appearance: Maggie is 4 feet, 8 inches tall, left-handed, and fairly thin. She has long red hair, blue eyes, and a face dotted with freckles. Her clothing is loose and feminine, though often dirtied from playing outside.
History:
1878: Maggie is born. Her mother dies in childbirth.
1879: Maggie’s father finds it difficult to raise Maggie and her older sister on his own. He and the girls move in with Maggie’s grandmother.
1882: Maggie shows her first sign of accidental magic when she sets her itchiest dress on fire. Grandmother is not amused.
1883: Maggie starts school in Hogsmeade. She enjoys meeting other children and discovers a passion for reading, but she has trouble paying attention in class.
1885: Arabella leaves for Hogwarts. Maggie misses her deeply, despite her bossiness.
1886: Before school starts, Maggie decides to follow a flock of birds and ends up getting lost and missing school. Grandmother is not amused.
1887: Maggie gets in trouble for punching a boy who was bullying her best friend. Grandmother is not amused.
1889: Maggie leaves for Hogwarts. She is excited for the new adventures to follow and to get away from Grandmother’s watchful eye.

Maggie stared out the window of her classroom. The professor was droning on, but she had stopped paying attention long ago. Grandmother would scold her for that. She was always criticizing Maggie for something. “Margaret, stand up straight! Margaret, slow down! Margaret, you’re dirtying your dress, stop that! Margaret, don’t you ever listen?” Grandmother’s croaky voice sounded in Maggie’s head, and she had to stifle a giggle.
But Grandmother isn’t here now, Maggie thought with a flash of defiance. She could do anything she wanted. Well, not really—she was still under the supervision of the Hogwarts staff. But still, she felt free, like the robin swooping amongst the branches of the tree outside the window. The sight of the robin gave her a pang of sadness. Father had told her that robins had been Mother’s favourite birds. Mother had been like Maggie—adventurous and a dreamer. Maybe if she were still around, Maggie would feel like she fit into her family. But she swallowed the lump in her throat and pushed the feelings away, preferring not to dwell on the negative.
“Margaret!” the professor called sharply. Maggie turned her head to the front and plastered on a smile, trying to act like she had been paying attention.
