Victor momentarily froze at the admission. He'd seen people die at the hospital, but that didn't mean the experience wasn't still sobering. He'd been shaken the first time it had happened, too — perhaps just as much as Jasper, though he'd certainly carried it differently. Jasper had always been sensitive, though; it wasn't as shocking to see him in tears as it might have been were he someone else.

He summoned a glass from across the room and poured his brother a healthy drink, then held it out to him. Jasper would want to tell him more about it, Victor assumed, but he could take his time collecting himself and speak when he was ready.
