It was his own fault, wasn’t it? The way he pushed and pushed ahead, reckless to the many polite signals Vince gave to maintain this barrier they’d just shattered through. He’d wished, poured all his will into, learning what it was that made Vince smile effortlessly. He hadn’t imagined it to transpire so soon. He hadn’t imagined it was this - the serene and winsome smile leveled from above and directed to only him.

Cassian flinched at the intimate tickle against his lower abdomen, screwing his eyes shut in a bit of a grimace. It’s as though every nerve ending in his body came to life with the intimation of that gentle, grazing finger. The blonde’s hands didn’t lift from Vince’s legs, though he couldn’t help the way his fingertips dug into the sides of his quads.

It does matter, he wanted to counter, but words still escaped him. Ignore what’s happening now? The thought baffled Cass, the same way it baffled him that there would be a tomorrow where they knew this happened. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he filed away a sense of hurt that Vincent didn’t have a single thought to how this changed their friendship - what it meant for them, or what would happen next. It wasn’t as though Cassian was powerless in this situation, but Vince had a certain effect–

“Stop that,” he huffed, finally opening his eyes to grab hard at his friend’s cravat as his wandering fingers sent a shiver straight down to his bones. Sharp green eyes leveled against his, and this time, Cass was acutely aware of his breath against his cheek. An absent part of his mind remembered the taste of watermelon he’d had earlier, which hadn’t come from the candy he ate himself. Another part of his mind wanted nothing more than to hit Vince, wipe away that mischievous grin for all the hell he’d caused them both. And still a third part of his mind felt numb to it all – putting all its hope on instinct. Instinct that sensed the cravat falling apart in his tight grip, and that used a final tug to pull it apart and let Vince in.
