March 29th, 1891 - Fisk-Bixby Wedding (Ottery St. Catchpole)
Even though she had been able to see Alfred earlier today, and even though her gloves were secretly etched with the symbols of tribal tattoos on the interior, the wedding had somewhat dampened Zelda's spirits. It was one thing to be involved in the planning and a member of the wedding and know that this — the marriage to a significantly older man just to avoid being alone — was something she never wanted to choose for herself, and another to actually watch it happen.

She was not sure Xena would have picked this, either.

So she was a little drunker than she'd meant to be at the reception, but at least she was much more sober than Leonid was.

"You should not have any more champagne," said Zelda, who should also not have more champagne. She poured more of it from the bottle on the table into both of their glasses, leaving only a few drops on the table.

Xena was getting married to a much older man. She did not seem bubbling with joy as most brides should probably feel. Much as he tended to try and keep a wide berth from Xenas goings-on, he did want her to have a happy life. Of course, he wished the same for all of his siblings but Xena was his twin, had been his wombmate.

It also brought forth the thought that he should probably also consider marriage. Everything combined had him going a little harder on the available drink than he should have. His thoughts were a delightful haze.

"It's fiiiine," he said as he took his glass and took a sip. "Champagne isn't like whiskey, it can barely be counted as alcohol. It's more like... apple juice for grownups." His sentence was punctuated by a little hiccup.

"Except apple juice doesn't get you drunk," Zelda said. Her cheeks were flushed a permanent pink, and some of her hair was starting to escape and point in all sorts of weird directions. She wasn't hiccuping though, which meant that she could continue to drink champagne and still not be as bad as Leo. Haha.

"Do you think Xena liked today?" she asked.

"Sshh, there's no room for your silly logic here," Leonid said in his best 'Brannon Fisk scolding you' voice. He took another sip of champagne.

"I think she liked that the day was all about her. Not so sure she is all that fond about the groom himself."

Zelda stifled an unladylike bark of laughter behind her hand. It wasn't very kind to laugh about it, even though she was sure they'd all been thinking it — Xena was clearly settling, and she did like being the center of attention. It was a sign of Leo's drunkenness that he was even bothering to say it.

"And do you think you'll get married soon?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow.

Leonid was very drunk. Normally, he would censure his words a little more. Think it, don't say it and all that. The amount of champagne he had ingested was eroding his mind-to-mouth filter.

Leonid choked on his next sip in response to Zeldas question. Uh. "I don't know. Maybe? I've thought about it. I'll be thirty and that's what I'm supposed to do, innit?" But did he want to? He had no clue.

"You don't sound particularly enthused," Zelda pointed out with a playful grin. She grabbed the bottle to top off her champagne, having decided that if her glass was rarely entirely empty then no one would notice how much she was actually drinking.

Leonid laughed. "Should I be?" Leonid asked teasingly. He still felt young, it still felt so weird to consider himself 'of marriageable age'. "Though with Kons courting Miss Evans, I suppose I should at least be doing that. Know anyone in market for a half-interested fellow? Dionisia married Ari, it could become a trend among your female friends. Another one could marry Dory or Julian." Yeah, he was really drunk.

Zelda wrinkled her nose at him. She was drunk, but not drunk enough that the thought of any more of her friends marrying into the family was amusing. "I think you need to take a walk," she suggested.

Leo chuckled in response to his sisters nose wrinkle. "Do you think they'll notice I am drunk if I take a walk? He asked, feeling a little wobbly even though he was sitting down. "Or if we just slip away to conquer the cake?" Xena had procured the most impossibly obnoxious wedding cake that he had ever seen. It would be keeping people fed for days, he was certain.

"Oh, definitely," Zelda agreed with a cheeky smile. "So let's go get some cake." She could be the good, well-behaved sibling keeping Leonid in check. Or something.

Leonid stumbled to his feet. He put on his best 'I am definitely not drunk' expression as he and his sister sidled on over to where the cake was. One thing could be said for this wedding: the drinks and the food were A+ quality.
