The terms heterosexual and homosexual (along with monosexual, those who preferred masturbation) were coined in 1869 by a Hungarian human rights activist; however, when they entered the popular English lexicon in 1890, all were used to describe "abnormal, perverted, or morbid" sexual appetites. It wasn't until the 1930s that the term 'heterosexual' was de-stigmatized to include healthy attraction towards the opposite sex, and much later for 'homosexual.'

In 1886 a permit was filled in the US for an invention called "stool and seat" which is a highly deceptive name as it wasn't just your basic stool/seat but a bustle stool. It went over the underlayers but below the petticoats and acted as a part of the structural garments that built up a bustle and included legs and could be sat on without an external chair. You could be your own chair.

Here one can find the permit for it and here one may find it mentioned in the 1887 edition of Scientific American. And if you wish to know about the practical use and how you can make one, Morgan Donner has constructed and tested one here.

The current classification of beasts, beings, and spirits was only finalized in 1811!

Prior to that, beings were considered anything that could speak a human tongue (which included jarveys but notably excluded mers) and spirits didn't have a classification of their own at all.

Many wealthy households kept bee colonies at their country estates and it was a tradition to inform the bees of anything that occurred in the household from marriages, births, deaths, etc. It was thought that the bee would share the appropriate emotions for the event. In particular, if someone in the household died, they would cover the hives with black crepe as they told or sang to the bees. As well there were multiple occurrences of the hives even dying if no one told them about the death.

Here is jstor on the telling of the bees.
