Appearance: Ava stands about five foot seven. She is right handed. She is slender, but very strong for someone of her size and gender. It is not surprising due to her line of work and her insistence she can complete any task set before her. Her body shape doesn't include any curves. She has blonde hair, laughing eyes, and a set of somewhat crooked teeth. She dresses practically, even when she is not at work. If it was a different time, she probably would have chosen to wear pants so she could get around more easily.
History:
In 1858, Ava was born, the offspring of Dorcas Gedge and Gregory Tibbet. She was the second child of Dorcas. Her first born, Isaac, and his father both resided in the house. He was an accident, and the two had decided they would soon marry, once they were able. However, once it became pretty clear that Ava was not his child, the man took Isaac and left to raise him on his own.
Ava's own father, Gregory Tibbet, never publicly admitted he had fathered a bastard. In fact, he had only learned it had been him after Dorcas had blurted it out in a drunk stupor. Dorcas never tried to force him to reveal his identity since she was on to her next conquest pretty soon after they stopped having their brief affair. When Ava was very young, he would occasionally gift her with toys, and he helped contribute toward her schooling at Hogwarts.
Various men that Dorcas lured from Diagon Alley passed in and out of their lives. Ava tried to keep away from their home, often on the streets of muggle London.
When Ava was nine, her half sister, Eliza, was born. Her father is one of two possible men, but not even Dorcas is 100% sure who it actually is. Not that she cares, either way. With another addition to the family, Ava took to the streets to find employment, instead of adventure, so that they wouldn't go hungry. She practically helped raise her younger sister who accompanied her to her various odd jobs once she was old enough to do so.
Also at nine, she started showing signs of magic and decided to look for employment in Diagon Alley, in exchange for tutoring to help her get ready for school. She figured she needed to learn a few basics, such as reading and how to write her letters, before she could even be remotely successful.
When she turned eleven, Ava went away to Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor. Her schooling wasn't terribly note-worthy, but she did find that she had a particular talent at charms. She also encountered her brother, Isaac, at school, and they have kept in contact since.
She earned half-scholarships for second and third year that her birth father secretly paid for. However, he was no longer able to afford any subsequent years due to his wife giving birth to their first child. To make up for it, Gregory quietly helped her land her first job as a shop hand by making arrangements with someone he knew. Half of her salary she used to help keep her sister fed and clothed. The rest she used to help better herself (by supplementing her education) so she could land a nicer job in the future. She eventually was entrusted with handling the books and written correspondence with customers as her skills grew.
When Hogsmeade was established in 1877, she leaped at the chance to also head there. Especially since the small shop she had been working in had been passed to the owner's son, who always stared at her with leering eyes. Unable to find a similar job right off, she was employed by a family as a maid for a time.
In 1879, Ava started working for August, assisting in his law office, and she has stayed on working for him ever since. She enjoys the work, and she has become quite loyal to August and his family, especially after she was also made into a housekeeper.
Personality: Ava is very straight forward and no-nonsense when it comes to her work. She's organized, meticulous, and generally very good at her job. She can often anticipate a problem before it even occurs and try to head it off. She is very loyal to August and his family, and she adores little Lysander who reminds her of when her sister was young. Ava has a rather sarcastic sense of humor, and she is not afraid to get her hands dirty if needed, both literally and figuratively. She cares very little for her 'spinster' status since she prefers women to men, and she meets any insults to that status with a sardonic smile. She keeps the fact she is a lesbian rather hidden, but she does hope to meet someone one day, aside for the occasional flirting when she's had a bit too much to drink. Her half-siblings are incredibly important to her, especially the sister she basically raised. They are about the only reason she would miss out on a day of work. She is outgoing and friendly, particularly to those she trusts. She is prone to teasing others.
Other: Ava has a tawny owl she affectionately named Peter after a boy she knew growing up whom she thinks resembles the creature. She gets drunk rather easily. She takes pride in her penmanship. She is petrified of snakes.
