January 23rd, 1895; Evening — Hogwarts Library

Harmony Gambol was not exactly studied in business, but even she knew one did not give away product for free. In this case, though it was not exactly common knowledge, the product was her brain and all it contained.

This, however, was for her benefit in another way: the Ravenclaw had begun to fret about the examinations that would end the term—and her time at Hogwarts—and did not study well in isolation. Write an essay? Sure. Learn a new charm? Fine. Studying, though, had always been something the seventh year found required others off of which to bounce ideas (usually her own; they were quite good) and Ottaline, for all her virtues, had not shared in Fran's urgence to begin preparing for the N.E.W.T.s.

And so the redhead had rather branched out.

The first week had been just Franny and Abraxas Crabbe who, while kind and bright, did have a habit of going off on tangents that were not exactly helpful. Fortunately, he had... quidditch? Chess club? Misadventures? It was not altogether important, but he was not here to serve as a distraction from the mission. His place had been taken by others, and so the Ravenclaw was not presently in isolation, though whether she had traded up or down still remained to be seen.

"I've materials for most courses," she offered, gesturing to the bag she had placed upon the table. In it, Franny had tucked rolls of parchment for each of the subjects in which she was enrolled—it was not a small number—each blackened with notes. She was nothing if not thorough, after all. "My intention, though, was to focus this evening on either ancient studies or herbology—unless anyone has anything more pressing?"

Paxton was not dull-witted by any means but the allure of studying was not something that had ever ensnared him. Well, when he had been involved with... Never mind, that. His NEWTs were coming up and he wanted to do well. So he had joined a study group thing so he hoped that would help somewhat.

"I am taking Herbology but not Ancient Studies," Paxton informed the redhead as he doodled a bit on his topmost piece of parchment which also contained his haphazard notes about Devils Snare.

"Evening, Miss Gambol, Fudge. How are you doing?" Rufus folded himself down on a rather uncomfortable footstool that stood near the study group's table. He looked around at his two year mates. It could not be said that they were close-knit, but this was about academics, and he took that seriously.
He looked curiously at Paxton Fudge and Harmony Gambol and smiled. Gambol was an excellent student, he knew that. About Paxton Fudge he was not so sure - he didn't know much about him except for taking note of his lively manner.
"I don't want to bore you by going through it then," he said to Paxton. "Starting with Herbology works just fine. Crowley the crow is driving me to insanity though. I need to go through the coursework at some point. It's barely intelligible. You've got Ancient Studies too, Miss Gambol? How are you getting on with it?"

"My apologies," Sobie offered as she looped the strap of her bag across the last remaining seat at the table before taking a seat, "My alchemy group ran late." She sounded slightly winded but paid the fact no mind as she started to rummage through her bag, pulling out a quill, ink pot, and notebook.

She'd arrived just in time to catch the tail end of Osei's statement and the choice left her a little bit annoyed. Like Fudge, Isobel was only in Herbology but if anyone asked she would promptly blame the lack of Ancient Studies on her roster on the fact the staff hadn't allowed her to be the exception to the seven class rule not her inability to manage another class. Or two. Though she was quite content to no longer take Astronomy.

"I would prefer herbology as well but I suppose Mr. Fudge and I can always go over things together if the two of you need to look at something from Crowley."

Though honestly, from what she had heard of Crowley so far, Sobie was almost glad she wasn't in the class. While she admired any female in the pursuit of academia, even Sobie had to admit the woman was a bit... strange.
