Sorley Finn

30 ~ WCMB ~ Rep 7 ~ Hufflepuff 1875-1880 ~ Mediwizard ~ Queer


This is Finn!  If you call him Sorley he'll know you don't like him.  He was around before under a slightly different name.  I've kept whatever events in his history I could remember but I don't know if his personality is exactly the same; I'm still getting a feel for him in posts again.

He's a jovial but slightly neurotic WC mediwizard who, thanks to his maladaptive coping special interest in all things medical, is equal parts brilliant and a mess.

ISO: Finn accidentally got married (or seriously involved in a non legal way) in 1884 thanks to amortentia.  Open to any class, blood status, and gender. They are not currently together and if they did get married he thinks the marriage was annulled.  Commitment/active involvement TBD I just love setting up history.

Friends:  Finn is part of the Revs gang but he also is prone to just going out and meeting new people because he doesn't like being alone for long stretches of time.  Probably easier to maintain if WC or coworkers but open to all.

Misc:

• He makes regular trips to the slums/Pennyworth to offer whatever medical help his professional (mediwizard) and personal (obsessive research) knowledge can manage. The treatments are probably more outdated, offbeat, or inventive than one might get from a proper healer but the people he helps can’t afford a proper healer and know what they are signing up for. He doesn't charge but ends up being given food or odds and ends in exchange. (see also: his obnoxious collection of knitwear)
  
• I'm in the market for some questionable life choices for him.  I haven't settled on what exactly but some options:
  • Susceptible to grifters selling snake-oil type stuff.  Possibly having adverse reactions/consequences to this.
    
  • A history of having or has a variety of bedfellows that he is not proud of but it beats being alone some nights
    
  • Accidentally getting caught up in something seedy/shady
    
  • Something something blood for vampires
    

Unlikely Long Shot: as a muggleborn Finn was disowned and ousted in 1877 when the Queen did her thing.  He was placed with 'distant relations' (which could mean anything) until he got his OWLS in 1880 after which he was staunchly independent so commitment would be minimal.

I have his boss, hospital director @“Richard Gladstone”

And at the Hogsmeade Hospital, I have @“Perseus Flint” though he probably would have little to do with a wcmb mediwizard from the London hospital xD BUT he exists if some big disaster happens again where it’s all healers on deck.

ooooh this would be fun to explore.  A periodic blurred lines or flirtationship or something.  lol that cliche that the longer a friend group exists the more likely they are to all hook up at some point

And absolutely!  He probably does London the most just for sheer proximity.

Oh man he would have absolutely gravitated to Philomen at some point, for better or worse.  Magical Bugs is both a fixation and an anxiety trigger for him.  Finn probably would have sought him out professionally at first but I can see them getting along socially too.  He would be very interested in his pursuit of stopping epidemics, his muse has already shown interest in the topic of vaccines.

Yes, def past stuff with Gus!  But also maybe present?  It might be hard to maintain but also Finn feels an automatic affinity with anyone Irish and i can see his fretting about magical contagions devolving into a phase of DADA/general defensive magic. 

P&PP is a much safer subject for him than Magical Bugs which means its less compelling too.  I can see him coming to visit/bother Delilah on breaks or between calls and she can have opinions on his overuse of dittany, which I think he regards like some people do essential oils lol.

We've chatted Derek McKinnon boss things and I would love a thread. I also have Mabel Brighton on the team with him. She often fusses and frets over Henry Berkwood and his antics so if they know each other, well Mabel has two eccentric friends she looks after and that's just perfect lmao

Meredith Edgecombe is inactive, but eternally present in the background - just assume she shows up on your doorstep with cake if it's your birthday, and if you're having a bad day she'll shower you with food. And if you're sick, she'll just constantly owl you soup and comfort food.

and if Finn and Gus Gus are friends, then I also propose Irene Crawley as a friend as well! Around the same age and used to be WC!

Def down for threads to figure out what he's like at work/how aware his bosses are of his illness anxiety (formerly 'hypochondria'). Whether they know things can can run away with him sometimes or just that he gets 'sick' enough to miss work sometimes. But also he just works a lot like if you need a shift covered he's either one you call to cover it or he's already working. And if he's slacking off on the clock its because he's gone to pick the healers brains about something he's read.

He'll have needed someone to sponsor his joining the Skull & Scalpel club which I'm hoping Derek McKinnon or Richard Gladstone might have done either years ago or recently. He wants access to the talks and demonstrations

Richard was a Magical Bugs healer (1877-1884), assistant healer (1884-1887) and then healer in charge before becoming director (1887-1892) - so if Finn gravitated there, potentially he already has some rapport with Richard? Feel free to name Richard as having been his sponsor!
