I was thinking of ways to make new!Katherina and I had this idea: She's a member of this coven, consisting of pureblooded women that 'protect' each other. My thinking is that it was created in the olden times, before the fire freezing charm was invented and when it was more ~dangerous~ for wizards. And not just because of muggles, but because of evil dark wizards generally. The members of this coven have something like the Dark Mark that informs the other members that another member is in danger. Or a lady can use it to call for help. As such, if Katherina was to be attacked by the Hogwarts slasher, she could call her girlfriends for backup.
In my head, members are only purebloods from ~good~ families because I can't see Katherina rushing to the rescue of random muggleborns. WC pureblooded witches would be allowed in if they have a good reputation and they already work for a wealthier women (so like Kath's lady's maid) Or maybe she would for a halfblood, idk, she's a soft purist >.> You don't have to pay a fee or anything to be a member - just swear an oath to always have your sisters' back and yada yada.
I think that'd be a cool idea because it adds a magical twist to the notion of a chaperone. It's also cool because girls have each others' back.
I also have this image of them gathering at some Coven Headquarters to hang out and do blood magic on their enemies.
