He wouldn't be with anyone romantically if he didn't feel like they were mentally healthy enough for a relationship and yes he would absolutely make that judgement call on their behalf

(For context, the first girl he ever ~noticed at school later turned out to be a half-veela, and then his first kiss with a girl was under-the-magical-influence, hence the previous confusion. Honestly I'm v impressed he made it this far.)
