Ozymandias had certainly not been expecting that. His first instinct was to decline, because while they were in a fairly secluded part of his parent's garden they were still in his parents garden, and he did not fancy the idea of someone walking by and seeing them. On the other hand, what was the worst that could happen? They'd be spotted, and forced to marry to save her reputation? He'd already offered to marry her. Perhaps they had nothing to lose.

The other thing on his mind, of course, was that he did not want to stop at just kissing her. He'd wanted to touch her for so long. Being alone with her and kissing her and then just stopping would require a good deal of restraint. (But then — perhaps they had nothing to lose?)

"Then I rescind my offer. I thought you were a respectable lady," he said; his tone was cool but he was obviously not serious, because he followed this immediately by closing the distance between the pair of them. Without giving her a chance to reply or to protest, he took hold of her and kissed her.

Thomasina had only been kissed thrice: once two seasons ago, when she was caught under mistletoe at a party, and twice in her first season, by a man who was entirely besotted by her until he found out that she wanted to be a healer. She was a little overwhelmed, accordingly, by all the sensations — the press of Dempsey's beard to her face and of his lips to hers, the height difference that had her standing on her toes, the way he held her almost possessively.

He was the best kisser she'd met so far. Given his reputation, Thomasina wasn't surprised.

She pulled her head back after a few moments, but did not step out of his arms. "I'll marry you," she said, definitively.

Oz had kissed his fair share of women, but few (none?) had been quite like this. It wasn't that she was particularly good at it. She was exactly what he would have expected in that regard, given her relative lack of experience. There was a spark to it that had been missing before, though. It was like there was electricity behind her lips. He wanted to tear her clothing off and press her skin up against his to see if that was electric, too.

She pulled back, leaving Oz grinning triumphantly at her. "I thought you might," he said. If circumstances had been a little different he might have gloated longer, but as it was he much preferred to go back to kissing her.

Sina could have happily kept on kissing him for much of the afternoon; privately, she likely could have let things go much further. But just when she had that thought, she felt something — damp? — on her shoulders and pulled away again, glancing upwards.

There was a raincloud above them, in a simple eight foot radius. So Ozymandias Dempsey had been telling the truth.

"It seems to be raining," Sina announced. And maybe this was lucky — if it wasn't raining, she might not have stopped herself.

He'd had one hand on her waist while kissing her, and when she started to pull back again he slid it around her back, preventing her from moving too far. It may have been raining (this cloud seemed to have taken on a personality and grown vindictive, or maybe it was just coincidence) but he didn't want to let go of her. There were raindrops running down her bare neck, highlighting the dips in her collarbone. He could have chased each one away with a trail of kisses. He could have bruised her neck with the intensity of his desire for her. He liked the idea of her having something she had to cover up before she went to work the next day: something that would remind her of him when she was dressing in the morning.

But they'd have plenty of time for that. He hadn't even been planning to kiss her today, so there was no sense carrying on and having her catch a chill because he'd kept her out in the rain. Oz let out a sigh of frustration and let go of her, fishing his wand out of an internal jacket pocket. He swore at the cloud for good measure (if it was developing a personality he wanted it to know he was displeased by interruptions like this) then cast a spell to nudge the cloud a dozen feet over, moving the shower to the garden wall instead of them.

He looked back at Miss Pomfrey — Thomasina, the woman he was going to marry, his future wife — and smiled, small but genuine. He plucked the marigold from her hand and leaned forward to tuck it behind her ear. Her hair hadn't been helped by the sudden shower, but the marigold suited her; the color made her eyes shine. "Time to go shock everyone, I think."
