Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

January 6, 1889 - Ministry of Magic Offices; London
Blossom was frustrated by the article that she had encountered earlier this morning. With a heavy sigh, she had put Miss Kenny in charge until she returned. So now she was in the Ministry, ready to ask to speak with a lawyer, or a person of whatever department it was that she needed to speak with. All of her actions were legal, she knew that. Her employees, both human and vampire, were paid. She was not going to have her vampiric workers living on the streets or in caves. So payments for rent and clothing were essential. As any good business woman, she had always kept up with the modern laws of business.
She wasn't quite sure what poor department was getting harassed by the Hogsmeade business. The paper had made a point that it was a Hogsmeade business, while hers was a London one. Specifically, it had been a quote from a Ministry employee. Hopefully one that she would get to encounter and thank. Walking up to the reception desk, she gave a polite, close-lipped smile. Not wanting to appear threatening. "Hello. My business showed up in the paper today, and I'd like to meet with a Ministry official regarding the manner that it is addressing." She stated calmly.

The memo fluttered around her head with urgency, if paper could be accused of being such a thing, and Morwenna plucked it from the air with a sigh. Nothing good came of memos from the atrium. In her experience anything that required the problem being passed immediately to a senior member of staff was a headache waiting to happen and frankly Morwenna had enough of them to be going on with.
Still, duty called. She sent back the memo and scanned the remainder of the document she had been annotating for the last half an hour. Mr Scamander was a clever young man but he really did need to improve his handwriting if he was to make something of himself.
The rap at the door drew her attention back to the present and she bade her visitor entrance. Ah… she had been wondering whether this would prove a mountain or a molehill, apparently her instinct that it would be the former had been correct.
“Miss Spinnakers, I take it?” She gestured to the seat on the opposite side of her desk. “You’re very prompt. I doubt the ink on the Prophet is even dry.”

She had been hurried into the office of one Mrs. Skeeter. Head of department, apparently. Really, it had to go this far? Well perhaps it can be settled quicker this way. Fast was best. Fast got her back to work on her regular duties. As always, several employees gave her nervous looks, though she remained calm and quiet as she was lead to the office. No point in making a scene. That wasn’t her style… for the most part. New employees tended to see her most dramatic side if there ever was one.
Being lead into the room, she gave a polite nod at the woman addressing her. "Yes. Thank you for meeting with me." Sitting down, she looked around briefly. Blossom’s office was typically not very organized to, at least in most people’s opinions. She could find most things she looked for easily. "I do hope to get things settled as quickly as we can. I go by the book."
Should she add more? She felt that adding something might help her case. "I would like to add that the Ministry employee who was quoted did have a reasonable point. Our businesses are in different locations, and the Hogsmeade funeral home has other competitors who are having more success." She did try her best to keep up with other businesses compared to her own. It was only smart.

Morwenna raised an eyebrow. That was rather more to the point that she had imagined but at least it boded well for the meeting - most vampires had a tendency towards sullen reflection, which was not altogether unjustified, but this one seemed to know more of what she was about.
“I would say she had an excellent point in fact,” Morwenna agreed, though she had already began to compile a list of who this mysterious Ministry employee was. She might agree with the sentiment of common sense but it didn’t change the fact that unofficially commenting on stories to the Daily Prophet was not something the Ministry could possibly sanction. She only hoped it was somebody low down enough that their input could be overlooked.
“I think it very likely that Mr Amigone is simply grubbing around for publicity but in the interest of putting this to bed I have to ask whether you’ve had any dealings with him in the past?

Talking on and on about her life story was not going to help matters... unless someone needed her to share her life story for some odd reason. She couldn't see why. Other than being a vampire and owning a business, she didn't think that one would see her life as one of interest. It was so caught up in work, she didn't even have a love life. If she had really ever wanted one, that is.
Of course, Blossom could never overlook the words that would certainly help her in her case against these accusations placed upon her. Thinking on the Head of Department's next words, she tried to recall the name other than in the paper. Other than the occasional check-ins with the papers regarding business so she kept up with modern times, she couldn't recall the man in question. "Not that I am aware of. Though to be fair, I deal with many humans throughout my day. Sometimes names become a blur once I get back to work. I must say that my profession is, in a way, my whole life." Hopefully her father would be proud.

Tragic though it was Morwenna could appreciate the sentiment. With the exception of her furry little problem and her son there was precious little else in her life beyond her work, and that thought alone made Morwenna feel utterly depressed. God almighty when had she become that sad? At least Miss Spinnakers had the excuse of actually being dead.
“One assumes you would recall this gentleman. If losing custom has lead him the paper I doubt he would have controlled himself if you encountered him personally,” she replied, pushing the paper aside. Mr Amigone was a name worth bearing in mind in case anything happened in the future but she could not do anything about a man who felt hard done by.
“With that in mind Miss Spinnakers can I ask how we are able to help you today? No laws have been broken and no one is being investigated, so if you have come to offer a rebuttal can I suggest the offices of the Prophet might be more appropriate.”

Blossom did make a mental note to try to pay attention to names more. Especially if the person was upset. In situations like this, it would certainly be useful. "You have a very valid point." She stated gratefully. It would also help if she had to report any trouble that might be caused by a more... frustrated client.
"My concern is making sure that no complaints can be made. I do keep up with the laws, but I want to make sure that I am legally protected if my competition does try to call for lawyers." She wanted to leave no stone unturned.

It was a sad state of affairs that the vampire was forced to keep up with laws that, in all likelihood, would never favour her kind. Morwenna had hopes of course, but she doubted the march of history would be swift enough for her to see real progress in her lifetime. Miss Spinnakers on the other hand...well, she might still see changes for the better.
Until then though it was decidedly in her remit.
“I can assure you any complaints will be dealt with fairly and, as it seems you are perfectly within the law, I promise you it would be a fruitless endeavor on their part.”
Morwenna locked eyes with the vampire, hoping the directness would put her point across.
“If they do try to cause trouble please feel free to come directly to me.”

There were few humans who could earn her respect over the years, but the woman before her was becoming one of them. What a relief it was to find someone who seemed genuine in wanting to help. A human who looked past the fact that Blossom was a vampire. One who was not under her employ. One day perhaps Blossom would see a more excepting world. A world that did not judged based on what one was. Moving forward was the best that she could do until then.
Thinking of the only response that she could deem fitting, the vampire nodded kindly to the woman before her and said, "Thank you very much, Madam Skeeter." A title of respect, one that Blossom did not use often. Not to be taken lightly, in her eyes. And the seriousness of the title was reflected with her tone. Because Blossom was old-fashioned like that.

It was a sad state of affairs that simply being a decent member of society warranted gratitude from those on the fringes of it. Morwenna smiled tightly at the vampire - would she have such fortitude and grace if her little secret was something she became unable to hide? Miss Spinnakers had no choice: the marks of vampirism were impossible to hide in Morwenna’s experience but for her hiding away like a coward was a perfectly manageable task.
Though she was finding that with each moon that came and went it took her longer to hide the ravages of her transformation. It chilled her to the bone to think that soon she might be just as reliant upon the benediction of others to live her life.
“You’re very welcome Miss Spinnakers.” She felt like she might cry, this was absurd. “Very welcome indeed.”
