I didn't know where to post this random idea/headcanon that I have so here we go.

So I was posting this for Cee's birthday party. It's not the first time I'm thinking that there's possibly wizards who offer services in space altering charms. They can make your tiny ballroom fit a stadium worth of people, make Hermione bags, these sort of things.

My thinking is that this is a complex form of magic which probably doesn't last for very long if it's performed in actual spaces, and it needs to be maintained for its duration. Hence why your character would hire these service people, so they can be at your ball and ensure that the big ballroom doesn't suddenly become small and crush all in attendance inside. (but hey? new Charming Tragedy idea!)

I'm thinking that this could even be something that you need to gain a professional certificate from the Ministry to do it, and maybe pass an exam of sorts.

And of course, there could be a WC family that specializes in this business

Let me know what you guys think!

Personally I imagine that there are definitely charm-casting professionals who do it for a career, like Lynn's Alasdair w/illusions!

And when it comes to space altering of buildings in particular, I'd imagine that falls under the purview of magical architects? Seems like the sort of thing you'd learn apprenticing as one and yeah, want to be appropriately qualified to do, and more permanent charms in buildings probably can last longer but probably also need structural check-ups once a decade or whatever to keep them in check so they don't fall in. My headcanon, anyway xD

I've mentioned a few times that Alfred has a (probably unreasonable) distrust of space expansion charms on anything structural because of what would happen if one failed on a boat while you were out to sea xD

& with how much of sea trade income is based around how quickly you can move a bunch of stuff from one place to another I feel like people have cut corners on storage holds and had them fail more than once :P

MJ made the most Alfredy of sets and then two years later she made it EVEN BETTER

I would imagine that there are - or should be all sorts of ongoing checking of buildings with those spells to ensure they are not compromised - sort of like a strucutural engineering checks.

It's a potentially interesting site plot - the guild of magical architects goes on a general strike causing something significant to collapse (ministry atrium) because it isn't maintained.

It would give the candidates something to debate over - how would they handle it?
