... I have too many ideas and absolutely no focus at the moment which is FAN-DUCKING-TASTIC. This particular one has kept me awake far past my bedtime which is hella annoying.

I have an idea involving a kidnapped child who was raised by another and who now lives under another name who gets a Hogwarts Letter. Would the letter/hat be under the assumed name or the given name? Would matters change if they thought of themselves as the assumed name they've lived under since they were kidnapped or given name?

For plot if this develops I'd prefer obviously the name that is lived under but let me know.

Bella Scrimgeour was a kidnapped child living under another name so that's a good place to get an idea of things

Bella is the product of my overdramatic 18-year-old self trying to see how this far-fetched scenario would play out, so I'm not sure she's a perfect fit to compare to Your Average Kidnapped Child™, but it did establish a few things?

  1. Bella was raised as a muggle despite her pureblooded heritage and was visited by a representative from Hogwarts and a letter as Matilda Draper, not Bella Scrimgeour.
  2. The Sorting Hat didn't tell her shit, but she's a twin (lolol) so showing up across the floor from her identical sister did the trick.

So following the logic of my own app, I'd assume your character would receive a letter with their kidnapped identity listed??

I vgauely remember us discussing this at the time when you were explaining the character, I think the logic was that it would be addressed to what they know themselves as to ensure they opened it and didn't think it was a misaddressed letter to someone else- which made sense to me.
