Bridgerton: Season 2 Thoughts

Y'all know what this is. WHAT'RE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SEASON 2?!

Maybe for the purposes of keeping this clean give a. your spoiler-free thoughts and then b. go crazy but use spoiler tags? idk, go wild. I just wanna know what y'all think >D

Things I liked, spoiler-free:

• All of the Kate/Anthony scenes. Every single one. Their chemistry was off the charts.
  
• How they gave Edwina more agency than she had in the books.
  
• Benedict/Eloise's relationship <3
  
• The callbacks to the books, even if they changed them up a bit.
  
• Portia Featherington's badassery.
  
• The role Daphne played.
  
• Dancing <3
  

Things I disliked, spoiler-free:

• The amount of Featherington compared to Kate/Anthony.
  
• The amount of focus on Lady Whistledown.
  
• That Colin scene at the end.
  

Things I liked, spoilers included:

Show

• The Kate's head injury scene (esp. when Anthony shouted "KATE" with his whole chest and made me feel pain) and how hearing she was awake made him break down. Emmy for Jonathan Bailey plz.
  
• Their dance at the end and how the Queen mentioned the Prince for Edwina. Love that the Queen's a Kanthony stan.
  
• Daphne immediately clocking the chemistry between Kate/Anthony and then spending the rest of the season side-eyeing them.
  
• Edmund <3
  
• That scene between Anthony and Gregory, UGH <3
  
• The epilogue was just cute af
  
• The intimacy that can be shown with just hands is wild.
  
• The dance scene with the Bridgertons and Sharmas had me giggling.
  
• BABY HASTINGS!
  
• The Queen's zebras.
  
• That they had Lady Danbury sponsoring the Sharmas.
  
• All the references to the Sharma's Indian heritage! <3

Things I did not like, spoilers included:

Show

• How drawn out the love triangle was. I wanted more married!Kanthony.
  
• That Edwina fell in love with Anthony. It made everything more complicated, messy, and really soured the sisterly bond that I loved so much from the book. They could have simply had Edwina know about the Sheffield's conditions, continue the relationship out of duty and not tell Kate that she didn't love Anthony out of fear of disappointing her, and have the eventual revelation of Kate and Anthony's mutual feelings be met with relief (and maybe some embarrassment if they want conflict).
  
• Eloise and Penelope's relationship shattering at the end. Eloise was v. annoying to me this whole season and I didn't like her except when she was with Benedict.
  
• How Colin humiliated Penelope in front of all those men. In the books it was in private to his brothers when they were teasing him, and in the books she had a chance to defend herself which was moment of development for her and a humbling moment for him. Book Colin would have never talked shit about Penelope in public and I HATE it.
  
• Basically most of the side plots. Maybe I'm just annoyed I didn't get more married Kanthony since the books does a lot of that.
  
• I was going to say that I was annoyed that they cut Kate's fear of thunder, but honestly it made sense that they instead drew the parallels to their mutual responsibility for their families and self-denial. There were some really good parallels in the season.

It may seem like I have more things I dislike than like, but honestly I am still glowing from the serotonin. Kate/Anthony are my favorite book couple so I loved seeing their relationship (despite the differences) play out on screen <3

ETA: WHERE DOES THE F-SISTER (Francesca?) ALWAYS GALLAVANT OFF TO? I feel like we don't see her as often XD

MJ always makes her so pretty

I've spoilered all of mine because I'm not sure I havn't veered into spoilers and can't be trusted!

Show

Things I liked:
- The chemistry between Kate and Anthony - that almost finger touch nearly killed me!
- Simone Ashley -all of her, she is STUNNING - I've a serious girl crush! 
- The depiction of masculine affection was lovely, the support and comraderie of the men with each other was nice
- Pen using her real accent as the Irish maid! I lol'd
-I like Lady Featherington actually standing up for her girls! I was SURE she was about to abscond to America and was surprised when she decided to stay and stand by her daughters.  I didn't think she had it in her.
-Pall Mall scenes were fun
-The Queen - from her sass, to backing up the Bridgertons by saying it was her decision that the two didn't marry - and of course the prince reference
- The scene with the king, Charlotte and Edwina *sobbing*
- Lady Danbury, although I didn't like when the Queen was mad at Danbury - not because it wasn't a great plot point but because I want her as my granny and I'd be annoyed if anyone upset my granny! :D
- the family dance in the empty hall.


HATED: -
Colins nastiness about Pen - there was none of that in his character and then suddenly he's being an ass about her. 
Eloise and Pen friendship breakdown.  I get Eloise was angry- but she has thus far been depicted as intelligent and rational enough to understand Pen's plan - didn't she suggest doing a poison pen on her herself?!
-Edwina after the marriage fell apart -she became petty and mean spirited.  and like Eloise she was meant to be intelligent and could have 100% understood her sisters motivations in doing what she did. Her temper tantrum afterwards was out of character. 

Totally agree with Holly Scrimgeour on the thing of having Edwina fall for Anthony - they were both giving off Angelica skylar vibes with their closeness- that if one said they loved him the other would move aside - and then suddenly she was in love with him, when it would have been better to have had her either fall for someone with no title (and therefore not meeting the Sheffields standards, so Kate discourages it) OR no romance for her and she is just going along out of duty and expectation (what I would have preferred) -to still leave her the prince - who I also want to see happy! :D 

Elsie Kirke - I assume she's just 'off in the nursery'

And also totally the music! LOVED the classical takes of modern songs - reminds me of 'Another period'

Omg “wtf where is Francesca” was legit one of my thoughts because she’s next out after Eloise and at least last season she was mentioned as being off with an aunt xD

• Alright I loved Edwina, even after she found out about Kanthony. Not saying she wasn't petty and annoying but seeing as at the beginning she didn't seem to have a mean bone in her body and she seemed kind of too naïve, and suffering from youngest/only child syndrome I feel like her pettiness and meanness came from having trusted Kate and realizing that she'd been betrayed by the one person whose words she trusted above all else. Kate's sheltering of Edwina also seemed to contribute to the fact that her keeping secrets was such a shock. She needed that pettiness and nearly losing Kate to snap her out of her self-pity phase. After Kate's accident and recovery, I loved Edwina's speech about wanting to get to know herself and encouraging Kate to do the same. I wish we saw more of THAT Edwina. Also rooting for her to marry the prince pls.
  
• LADY CRANE / MARINA. I love how she turned Colin away. You fuckin' go, girl.
  
• THE HALDI AND HAIR OIL. Also the costuming touches, though I wish we'd seen MORE, like a sari and mendhi for the wedding. But seeing the Haldi scene and the way they decorated the room for that scene was just -chefskiss-
  
• I loved that mud scene. Reminded me of the Charles Blake & Lady Mary mud scene
  
• The dance scene between the two families was so adorable.
  
• I love that we got to see the family (Violet and Anthony mostly) processing the death of Lord Bridgerton. They were so heartbreaking to watch, and I like that we saw Violet apologize to Anthony about how it was handled and apologize that all the weight fell on him after their father's death.
  
• "IT'S NOT PRINTING I WISH TO SOLICIT." Stamp this on a t-shirt, I will wear it to the library every day.
  
• Anthony/Gregory scene was too adorable.
  
• Daphne's immediate radar for Kate & Anthony. No one's fooling her after what she went through in Season 1, especially Anthony. I love it and I wished we'd seen her meddle more.
  

DISLIKES

• though I haven't read the books, I agree with Dante/Bree! They both definitely had the Schuyler sisters vibe and I also would have liked to see Edwina just kind of not go through that heartbroken-fueled pettiness. It would have been really interesting to see her instead breathe a sigh of relief but also go through a kind of frustrated at realizing how sheltered she's been phase, and have that motivation of wanting to get to know herself better without the addition of a man.
  
• I also didn't like Colin's nastiness about Pen. I also thought I read somewhere that in the books that Pen gets to be there when it happens and gets to defend herself, and I'd have liked to see that.
  
• Alright I love Portia Featherington, she's such a badass, I also love Eloise but all these side stories kind of gave me a little whiplash, and I wish we'd just gotten one, and maybe a tease of the other which would then proceed to trickle into the next season. Idk, it kind of seemed like they didn't know which story to give us, and wanted to make them all A plots as opposed to having Kanthony being the A plot and then Featherington and Eloise's plots be B and C. At the end I just found myself not really caring about either sub-plot out of frustration.

100% This! I was pleased they didn't go for the Bollywood Indian beauty standard, that is to say very pale skinned south Asian women. 
I would loved to have seen a 18th century sari, or even a regency style dress in sari fabrics, which they SORT of did with kate with her rich coloured gowns, but I loved the wedding preperation scene.

Exactly this! I wasn't irked by the fact Edwina was mad - I was annoyed that she was so petty - if she had been angry because she realised she was being babied or condescended to, and because she was actually capable of being a strong independent woman if she had been given the chance - THEN I probably would have been fine with her sass after the break up!
