History:
| Pre-1865 | The Zahirs are a family that came from humble beginnings and moved up in the world. Tariq's great grandfather was brought to the Americas by a family he was working for. The child of that great grandfather - Tariqs grandfather - ended up having great success in his life that propelled him from the working class to middle class. His success only continued and kept the family afloat within the middle class. |

It is a respectable job and was achieved through his fathers connections. Tariq indulges his hobby of singing as he is often left to his own devices to finish his weeks work. Sometimes, he takes to pretending that he is performing for audiences on the stage. |
| 1883-1885 An Acting Career Begins | Tariq is caught at his private little hobby one day. Rather than getting fired as he had assumed was happening, he is urged to become one of the resident troupes singing actors. His roles are small at first and he certainly isn't quitting his day job. But he has a gift for this, one that is seen and given the room to grow by those around him. |

He still can't shake the feeling that he doesn't really deserve any of this. Even so, it is his life now. |
| Autumn 1891 | Tariq comes to the UK with his acting troupe as some too-wealthy socialite or another heard of them and invited them over to the UK to perform in some of the theatres that she helps financially support. That is all absolutely fine by Tariq but he is pretty sure that he's heard random people on the street call out to him with the name Ishmael. He has no idea what that is about. |
Personality:
Tariq is a rather charismatic man. He is an excellent actor but often gets very lost in his roles. It can take a while for him to pull out of them. He is prone to intense imposter syndrome and doesn't quite grasp his own sucess and relative fame. He sometimes feels like he isn't really present. He is prone to anxieties over various things but masks them super well. While he generally prefers his own company, he is quite capable of being wildly sociable. While not necessarily considered book smart, he does possess cunning and street smarts.
