Tweety Bird [TRANSFIG 1 & 2]
#1
March 30th, 1890 —  Transfiguration Classroom
Tae-min felt like he was really getting into a rhythm with this teaching thing and much more fun, he thought the beginner class was ready for a more complex spell. They all had a bunch of inanimate objects - mostly stones - on their desks and he waited until everyone was seated before telling them what it was for. "The things on your desk will be your targets for todays spell - today we will be doing The Avifors Spell. Now, can anyone tell me what this spell does before we get into it? It would have been in your required homework reading after last class," he said, adding the last bit as a major hint.

The "Textbook"/Reading

#2
Apollo was pretty sure that he knew the answer - something about birds - but he also wasn't in the mood to call attention to himself today. Instead, he was sitting in the very back of the class and sketching.

#3
A beat passed before Rex's hand darted up eagerly. Though he was guilty of letting quidditch interfere with his readings sometimes, this was one the boy had been on top of.

"It transforms an object into a bird, Sir," the Hufflepuff answered when indicated. He could feel himself beginning to buzz in anticipation of what the lesson would likely entail.

#4
Joella had actually known the answer to this but was beaten to the punch by a Hufflepuff. It was pretty easy to guess that they would be turning the things on their desks into birds. Joella wasn't into that idea - she hated birds. They were too loud with their tweeting and twitterpating. Ugh.

Tae-min smiled at the young Hufflepuff as the boy answered his question correctly. "Correct, Mister Crabbe - five points to Hufflepuff!" Taking up his wand once more, he demonstrated the spell for them. "When casting, the hand movement is a sideways figure eight like so. The light on the tip of your wand should be blue and the incantation is avifors. Now, you all give it a go."

// I will roll for success so be vague with results!

#6
Apollo sighed and put his sketchbook away as Professor Yi demonstrated how the spell was to be cast. Taking up his wand, Apollo made an attempt at the spell.

#7
Joella took up her wand and practiced the sideways figure eight movement for a bit before ultimately doing her own attempt to cast the spell. She was sure that she was not pronouncing it correctly but she had already forgotten where the emphasis on syllables was.

#8
Paxton was always thrilled to be able to do actual, practical spells! He noticed a Slytherin girl practicing the movement first and privately scoffed. He was going to get this on the first try or at least as close to it as he could get.

Maggie pictured birds swooping all over the classroom, squawking and knocking over inkstands, and laughed to herself at the thought. Focus, Maggie, she told herself. She was always getting distracted when trying to cast new spells. Trying to fix her eyes on a blank spot in the front of the classroom, she attempted the spell.

#10
"Remember to focus on the objects on your desk rather than anywhere else," he said when he noticed some of the students staring into space rather than the stones he had placed on their desks. "Otherwise you will be turning random things around the room into birds instead."

#11
"Oops!" Maggie felt her face burning and hoped the other students weren't watching her. She attempted the spell again, this time with her eyes focused on the stone on her desk.
//ooc: Sorry, that was my mistake!

#12
Rex did two practice figure-eights just to be sure his efforts looked reasonably like Professor Yi's before focusing his attention on the empty inkwell before him. Doing his best to replicate his professor's actions and outcome, the Hufflepuff cast, "Avifors!"

#13
Tae-min walked around the class and observed the students, correcting stances here and there. Mister Cartwright had been pronouncing the words wrong and thus was getting no results, so he did a gentle correction. Miss Wood did not have much success either and he urged to concentrate a little more. Mister Fudges stone managed to gain a beak which he applauded. "Five points, Mister Fudge!" Miss Robinson was not as successful but he thought he heard the stone on her desk chirp. Mister Crabbes effort looked best as his inkwell gained a beak, wings and tailfeathers. Though not yet a full success. "10 points to Mister Crabbe. Good job, everyone. Try once more."

5=partial success | 10=complete success
APOLLO - 4 | JOELLA - 2 | PAXTON - 6 | MARGARET - 4 | ABRAXaS - 7

#14
Apollo nodded when the professor corrected his pronounciation. "Avifors," he cast once more, making sure to pronounce it much more clearly.

#15
Joella blew out a breath of frustration before attempting the spell again. She just didn't care, that was part of the problem. She knew she was lucky to have her education funded but her apathy went too deep it seemed.

"Good job, everyone!" Tae-min said encouragingly, smiling happily when a few more partial successes sprung up around the room. He let them give it another go before dismissing the class. "Be sure to practice when you can. For now, class dismissed!"

APOLLO = 8 | JOELLA = 9
