Hawaiian Quidditch Team Dynamics
#1
Hey! Prior to the game on Tuesday, I'd like to have an idea of how the Hawaiian Quidditch team interacts with each other. Maybe we could give a few sentence description of their personalities and/or how they come across to other people. If you have a headcanon for how long they've been playing Quidditch or whether they're particularly good/bad at anything you could throw that in, too. Which island they live on, if their family is prominent in Hawaii - whatever you've already decided on, no need to go into any extensive detail.

Then we can figure out how they get along / what they think of each other!

Kokoikikane lives on the northern half of the main island in a comfortably MC magical household. He's a pretty solid Quidditch player, but he also has two side hustles - as a surfer who occasionally teaches tourists some basics and as an oceanographer/researcher. Whenever his Quidditch career peters out, he'll switch to doing those full time. He's grumpy about the lack of familiar fish available to eat in the UK. He's staying at the Sanditon for the duration of their visit (and has an open thread here if anyone's interested). He's laid back, doesn't get his panties knotted about very much. Probably the only way to get him actually angry would be insulting his family; otherwise he's likely to just shrug off and ignore any remarks.

Invitational: Kailani Hekekia Nakoa Makoa Halia Kapule

Kali is muggle born and finding out magic exists and that that flying was a thing was just amazing! her family do not really understand what she does and presume its like polo or something and more 'appropriate' than perhaps it is.

She is whimsical and dreamy. Despite being a female quidditch player she is a frothy female, she reads ladies magazines, loves dresses and always wears flowers in her hair - all that sort of thing!

In my head, she wears bright colours ribbons and flowers in her hair when playing, and will sing to herself when she is flying as it helps her focus (I def don't do this while fencing and horseriding :Shifty eyesSmile

She has a tendency, while here, to treat everything English with the sort of quaint condescension that White English people treat anything non-English.

In my head she is a deceptively aggressive player - oh look she's so petite, cute and girlie....IN YOUR FACE WITH THE QUAFFLE!

--------

She will be wearing a traditional Hawaiin dress to every formal event!

Kokoikikane - First ever picture of a surfer from 1890! - I can feel the white outrage from here!

Halia is a better quidditch player than she is a witch. Her family are farmers, and most of the people Halia grew up with have been farmers, and although she's never been starving, she's never had much beyond the basic necessities—except her broomstick. She played at a hobby level for most of her life, but grew increasingly competitive after she ended her second-year equivalent of a magical education.

She's not mean or rude, but she's very awkward and it can come off as standoffish. This, combined with her aggressive competitive streak, probably makes her come across as generally unfriendly. I assume she's tried to befriend the other members of the team to the best of her ability, but because of her age and her social background, she probably doesn't press it too much.

Lopaka comes from a family of Quidditch players so he has great respect for the sport. He's generally a very respectful person and takes what he does very seriously. He's really hard working and practices a lot and he's hard on himself if he feels like he didn't try hard enough. In spite of that, he's not a dick to his team players and he tries to help them practice etc. He does have high standards on how hard others try, though.

Makoa is a comfortably middle class quidditch family. Both of his parents played professionally in their youth before settling down into parenthood. He grew up playing quidditch with his cousins and siblings and is familiar with all positions (his talent ranking goes keeper > beater > chaser > seeker).

He's a quiet, friendly guy, often times choosing to listen in silence than fill the air with more nonsense.

Lol I have a feeling Lopaka wouldn't like Ko much because he definitely does not give off any vibe that he is taking this seriously. xD Like he's not going to sabotage the match or anything but Quidditch is a fun past time for him, not a passion.

Probably get along well with Makoa though! I can imagine them just hanging out doing a thing together and not saying a word for like an hour xD IDT Ko has much of an opinion on the girls, might not know exactly what to think of them. :P

Kokoikikane that works for me! They can go surfing together and whatnot.

Idt Makoa takes either of the girls seriously. He's partially convinced they're going to cost the Hawaiians the win.
