Darling Idunn,
I have only just finished work on the enclosed as I write this so forgive me if my handwriting seems untidy but I made you this in a fever of determination after a young lady visited me two days ago. I won't reveal her name - not in this letter anyway, but I may tell you when I see you in person as you will definitely know it! - but her bust was quite deformed and she told me, in floods of tears after I pointed it out to the poor girl, that it was because her mother had forced her to wear corsets through her adolescence that restricted the natural development of her body.
Obviously my thoughts immediately turned to you my love and though I have never encouraged you to wear anything restrictive I have been quite remiss in providing you with alternatives. I've already been through your wardrobes and taken away anything I think might cause you problems - please don't worry, I'll have a whole new set ready for you when you come home and I hope in the meantime you will do away with any item that so much as contains a whiff of whalebone!
I know it sounds terribly hypocritical of me darling but it's one thing for grown women to wear corsets and quite another for you to ruin your breasts before they've finished growing.
Much love,
Mama.
