And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness for the things I've done
that you blame me for
March 21st, 1890 — Letter
Dear Magdalena,
I know I have no right to write to you, not after all of this time but I cannot live with this decision any longer. I need my sister in my life, and although our parents may not approve I would risk their ire to be able to talk to my sister once again. I am only ashamed that it has taken me this long to find the courage to write this letter and try to make amends .
I will understand if you choose not to reply, it would be the least my cowardice deserves. Know that there will never be a time when I do not welcome a letter from you.
With all my love and my sincerest apologies
Your sister
Madeleine
