Appearance:
At six feet in height, Balthazar is above average, though his wiry build prevents his height from being particularly imposing. He dresses for his position, though pays little mind to fashion. His head boasts hair and occasionally whiskers, both auburn in color, and his eyes are a slate grey. There are a few scars here and there, mostly on his arms, from various elements of his work as an Unspeakable—which he certainly can’t discuss with you! He has a gruff voice but a kindly smile. Balthazar has a weakness of grip in his left hand from an experiment gone awry; fortunately, he is right-handed.History: 1845 | Balthazar is the third child born to Gaylord and Iphigenia Urquart.
1850 | Balthazar’s first act of magic is to levitate a book of nursery rhymes to himself.
1851 | Melchior leaves for Hogwarts.
1854 | Iphigenia delivers a daughter that is called Evelyn. Caspar leaves for Hogwarts.
1856 | He leaves for Hogwarts. His ample curiosity and intelligent mind land him in Ravenclaw, where he becomes fast friends with Matthew McGonagall.
1860 | Balthazar is quite proud to be named prefect.
1861 | Balthazar begins his sixth year.
1863 | Balthazar completes his Hogwarts schooling. His strong grades and father’s influence find him a position in the Department of Mysteries. Matthew also begins working in the Ministry, though in a different department.

1865 | After Evelyn departs for Hogwarts, Balthazar takes up residence at the club, not wishing to be left alone in the house with his parents.
1868 | Realizing he can never be more than the third Urquart boy if he remains in Britain, Balthazar decides to try his luck in America. He moves to Georgia where he lends his expertise to a magical research company.
1869 | At a holiday party, he becomes acquainted with Mary Adams, a black maid in the host’s household who had spilled a pot of hot soup on herself. Balthazar is able to rectify the mishap before any permanent damage is done, and finds he is quite taken with her.
1870 | By mid-year, the pair are quite infatuated with her. Balthazar makes up his mind to marry Mary, only to learn that such pairings are against Georgia law. The two instead have a quiet ceremony of commitment to one another, after which she moves into his home. As the months go on, their relationship grows incredibly tense, as the inappropriate match must be kept quiet. With Mary frustrated by this and Balthazar unwilling to return to Britain, where they might be public, because of major headway on his project, it is only the discovery of her pregnancy in early December that prevents the two from parting ways.
1871 | In June, Mary delivers their first child. Both parents are so taken with the girl that they decide to call her Delight.
1872 | Balthazar and his “wife” return to England in February, where he reclaims his old position as an Unspeakable. His parents, ever the classic wealthy purebloods, are amply displeased by his choice of woman: a former maid and a halfblood (though not thrilled with her race, they would have overlooked it had the other factors not been present). Balthazar is disinherited (not unexpectedly) and husband, wife, and daughter drop to the middle class. In June, Evelyn elopes with Balthazar’s old friend, falling to the middle class as well. The siblings and their spouses, however, are incredibly happy regardless.
1873 | The pair finally marry, a quiet ceremony with only Evelyn and Matthew present to witness. Only two weeks later, Evelyn delivers a set of twins, one boy and one girl. Later that year, Mary delivers twins Topaz and Ruby.
1875 | Mary delivers a son, called Sebastian. Evelyn has her third child.
1879 | Gaylord’s body is found in the snow three days before Christmas. His murder remains unsolved.
1880 | The Urquarts leave London, deciding to take up residence in the newly founded Hogsmeade. They settle in Bartonburg. Evelyn births another son.
1882 | Delight departs for Hogwarts. She is sorted into Hufflepuff.
1884 | The murder of Darcy Potter sets off a Ministerial campaign which Balthazar somewhat reluctantly enters—and wins! In the Autumn, all four Urquart-McGonagall twins leave for school. Melchior dies of the laughing plague, a matter about which Balt has mixed emotions.
1885 | Early in the year, Balt is mistakenly reported as being dead, prompting his brother to reconnect, though it feels rather strained. Mary is bitten by an adder and passes away before medical help can be sought, devastating her husband and children.
1886 | Balt realizes that his children need more parent in their life than he, as Minister, can give them alone and begins seeking a stepmother for them.
1887 | The year somehow manages to be worse even the year in which he lost his wife. First, he is left at the altar by Miss Adelia Lovegood—who, in retrospect, he did sort of have to shove there to begin with. Next and worse still, Topaz is attacked by a werewolf. Balt feels himself responsible for this, and his guilt only worsens when her condition becomes public knowledge. These pressures ultimately leave him to resign from his post as Minister of Magic.
1888 | Balthazar finds himself trying to piece his life back together in the wake of all the misfortune that has befallen his family.
