September 1, 1894 - Kings Cross, Platform 9 3/4
Nacho didn’t know what he was supposed to do now that Meida’s governess had left. His trunk and owl had been loaded onto the train and he was standing on the platform, looking around uncomfortably. His robes felt scratchy and weird and his wand was way too long because it kept poking him in the side. Was this what it was going to be like all year? He certainly hoped not. He hoped he’d make friends, and soon. The right friends; the ones Papa expected.

Papa’s warning from his last letter rang in Nacho’s skull, a memory the little brunette wasn’t quite able to shake. Asegurate que no te echen en una casa qué va a dar vergüenza a esta familia. Be sure not to land yourself in a house that will be an embarrassment to this family. He’d been turning the statement over and over all night; what if he didn’t have a choice? What if the hat didn’t listen to him? Theo had said the sorting process was all pre-determined anyway— whatever that meant. Chewing on his lower lip, Nacho worried and shifted in place.

He supposed he ought to get on the train. The platform was clearing and the warning whistle blew just then, startling him out of his thoughts. Maybe he should just follow what all the other students seemed to be doing. He looked around and it was at that moment that he spotted them: Aunt Lucy and Charles. The very two he’d been hoping to avoid like the plague.

Nacho caught his aunt’s eye and immediately looked away, cheeks heating and a frown coming to his face. He still didn’t know how he was supposed to feel about Lucy, but it was hard to dislike her when she was the closest thing to his mom that he had. Or memories of her. Them? Whatever. Turning away, Nacho scrubbed at his face a bit. He really ought to just get on the train.

The day had finally arrived and there was no avoiding it. Charlie was old enough for Hogwarts and would be leaving her. He was growing up so quickly and now to be here sending him off without his father.... Lucy refused to dwell on it. No. She needed to send Charlie off as the young lad he was. There would be time to mourn her own loss later.

Hand on Charlie's shoulder she looked out at the crowd around them seeking her nephew's. Ignacio Sidonia was another wound in her soul. She had always felt he ought to have had a home with her rather than in Spain but his father hadn't seen the logic in that. Lucy was not sure she had ever seen what Maggie had in her husband, but Maggie was no longer here. Nor for that matter was any of Ignacio's paternal side. The poor boy was all on his own.

"Come," She began to steer Charlie forward, "Let us say hello to your cousin."

When they came to Ignacio she smiled fondly at him and embraced him as if she had just seen him the weekend before rather than several years ago. "My darling Nico," She greeted him, "Are you excited for school?"

Charlie stood next to his Mama, although not too close because he didn't want the other kids on the platform to think he was a mama's boy. The train ride would probably make or break him, at least that's what his family had told him as many of them had forged their friendships while riding to Hogwarts. Charlie just hoped that he would meet a friend quickly so Hogwarts wouldn't be quite so lonely. Of course he was excited to go, but he was also sad to leave his family, especially his brothers, and nervous about how he might fit in.

Mama's hand found his shoulder but Charlie straightened his back. No way was he a mama's boy. But then he quickly realized that she was probably going to miss him just as much as he was going to miss her, so he leaned into her couch, his gaze shifting toward her to see if she was crying yet. Hopefully Mama would save that for when he was gone. But she was looking somewhere and not at him, and as his gaze followed her, Charlie couldn't help but scowl.

Stupid Ignacio.

He didn't want to approach him, but somehow Charlie found himself in front of the boy before he could blink. Charlie frowned. "Hi." It was all he could muster as he watched his mother embrace Ignacio like he was her other son. Behind her back Charlie glared daggers at him.

Too late Nacho realized he’d caught Aunt Lucy’s attention and more than just in passing. He saw her shuffle a bit and make in his direction, Charlie in tow, and for a split second, Nacho wondered if he could outrun them. What if he just… threw himself at the train and burst into the first compartment he could find and locked the door? Surely they wouldn’t find him there. But that would result in his making a scene, and he knew without a flicker of a doubt that Papa would not want him doing that. Not now, not ever.

Holding firm to his things then, Nacho suffered through what he knew was to come. He turned to Aunt Lucy, never once looking her in the eye as she greeted him. He was nobody’s darling anything these days he wanted to snap back at her but that would be rude and somehow… he just couldn’t find it within himself to vocalize the sentiment. Instead, he merely nodded and let her tug him into a hug. It was warm and comforting in a way that he hated and he made to pull back, abruptly.

Charlie’s icy glare then made him feel none the better even as he was released and Nacho took a decided step away from his aunt and cousin. “Sure, I guess,” he sniffed, wondering if he should even deign to converse with them. “I don’t miss crummy old England if that’s what you’re wondering!” The latter was said with a bite that he regretted even as it slipped out. He didn’t want to be rude to Aunt Lucy but he also didn’t need her pitying him! Suddenly, there was so much Nacho wanted to say to her, to them, to get out in the open and set the record straight. But his tongue tied itself into knots and he just stood there, hand balled into a small fist.

Ignacio was being a little jerk, and Charlie didn't want it to put a damper on his day. He was leaving for Hogwarts too, so Mama should worry about him and not this kid! He rolled his eyes and walked away, knowing that Mama would be quick with Ignacio before following him. Good riddance.
