"A lightning storm?" Ford echoed, brow furrowing slightly. For someone who had already been worried about this process, learning that it was to take place during inclement weather wasn't the instilling him with any additional confidence. "You don't have to... do anything with the lightning, do you?" Ford didn't even know what that would entail — he had never done anything in lightning except go inside. Were there spells that allowed wizards to catch lightning in their hands or put it in a bottle or channel it through their veins or something ridiculous and dangerous like that? Was Tycho going to do anything like that? (And, of course: what happened if it went wrong?)

"The lightning just does something in regards to the potion which I then have to drink during the storm and is the final stage," Tycho assured his friend. Though he probably wasn't helping anything with the next words that came out of his mouth. "Likely the tamest thing I had ever done and or ever will do with a lightning storm." He'd had intimate relations in the midst of the storm - he was a poet and terribly romantic, it had felt like a rite of passage. He had also conducted some experiments with the help of lightning though nothing on the level of a Mary Shelley novel. He wasn't that experimental.

That was... comforting, he supposed? It did make Ford curious about what else Tycho normally did in lightning storms which was both so mundane in Tycho's opinion that none of these events had ever managed to come up in conversation, but also so adventurous that brewing a potion and trying highly advanced magic for the first time qualified as tame by comparison.

"Ah — alright, then," Ford said uneasily, because what else was there to say after something like that? It would be silly for him to be worried about things Tycho had done in the past, since he was obviously fine, and Tycho had done a rather thorough job of trying to assuage all his doubts about the future (to limited success, but not for lack of trying on Ty's part). Ford felt a little pang of something else besides worry, but he wasn't sure it was worth saying anything about. He dismissed it as a silly thing to think as soon as he recognized it.

"I should probably get going," he said, shrugging the books in his arms vaguely as though they had any opinions on when they were checked out.

Tycho could tell that Ford was not fully placated but he did not know what else could be done about it. He had realized some time ago that his friend was the worrying sort. "[b]I suppose so. I still have some things to do here or I would leave with you."

He settled back down at his table where he had been poring over books and writing notes. "Dinner later this week?"
