At her answer he exhaled and visibly relaxed, his shoulders drooping back to their normal position. He reached up to run his hands through his hair, forgetting that he barely had any hair at this point.

"Merlin, I'm happy to hear that. Not that — I wouldn't have been angry with you, or anything," he explained hastily. "Just — the thought of some stranger in our house, with you, and you not knowing — if he'd done anything I'd have —" His voice was shaking; he left off there. Alfred pressed his hands to his face briefly and let out another heavy breath. "I'm sorry, this whole day has been — I was so worried about you."

She could have been in danger that morning, and she hadn't even known it. Assuming, of course, that this man was Alfred — and he was slowly winning her over with Alfred's mannerisms, even if he wasn't wearing his own face. This stranger seemed more like Alfred than Alfred had that morning.

Zelda wasn't sure if she felt relieved, or if she was more on-edge than she'd been all day — the strange thing was in her own home, now.

"I don't think you're the only one," Zelda said, "There's something going on with Roslyn. And others."

Whispers, trickling into her department, all day. But it was different when it was her husband.

"Roslyn?" he echoed. "That's good, isn't it? Not that it's happened to Roslyn, obviously. But if it's not just me, then they'll find a way to fix it."

Alfred did not know who he meant by they in this instance, but surely someone would be tasked to investigate and solve the issue if the Minister's wife was impacted.

She wanted to say I love you back, but she still wasn't sure it was Alfred. If this wasn't Alfred, then he was really doing a tremendous job of lying to her, but she still couldn't be sure. So instead of replying right away, Zelda asked a trick question: "When did we get married?"

When he realized what she was asking he grinned wide. He remembered the fangs and moved to cover his mouth with his hands, but still couldn't entirely contain his smile. He knew what she was asking, and of course he knew the answer, and now she would definitely believe him. She was brilliant. This was hardly the first time he'd thought so, but it never ceased to delight him when he was reminded of how amazing she was, particularly when faced with bizarre magical crises.

"May seventh. 1891. At around thirty minutes to midnight." There were only three people in the world who knew that (four if you included the muggle minister, but Alfred didn't), and Zelda would know that he hadn't shared that detail with anyone.

Zelda grinned wide, mirroring Alfred's expression — or, the expression that was not entirely Alfred's. "Welcome home," she said, "You're going to have to tell me everything that happened last night. And this morning. And we're going to fix you."
