I apologize for how short notice this is but might I pay you a visit tomorrow?

Please do not mistake this for ill will towards my sister-in-law but I have seen so little of my youngest brother recently that I selfishly would like his sole company to myself, if I may?

I would never turn down a visit from my sister, no matter how short the notice is. Of course you may come tomorrow, if you don't mind waiting until after 4 o'clock so that I've finished with work for the day?

I'm afraid on such short notice, however, it would be unreasonable of me to ask my wife to make plans elsewhere — but if you would prefer we could visit in the garden behind the house? I don't think Melody would be at all offended. Or, at any rate, I shall tell her we mean no offense so often that she'll eventually believe it.
