Ben was smiling after the kiss, but grew more solemn at her question. There wasn't any reason why not, from an outsider's perspective — but there was still plenty of lingering insecurity in their relationship, and he didn't want to rush into something they couldn't easily get themselves out of. A baby wasn't a new rug they could shuffle of to another room if they got tired of it. And acquiring one was perilous, too, as showcased by Desdemona and Lucille Lukeson this summer. Would the potion they'd used previously make things even more complicated? Ben wasn't sure if there were any lingering effects.
"Only if you want to," he said. He was still feeling vaguely guilty over his role in her decision to take the potion that spring (because no matter what she said, he knew his attitude towards her in those early days had been at least a contributing factor) and the last thing he wanted to do was pressure her into another decision. Especially when he still wasn't sure where this impulse had come from or whether it would last. He'd made plenty of spontaneous choices in his life — for better or for worse — but this was one he didn't think he could afford to fuck up.
"Maybe we should talk about it later," he suggested. "When things have settled down some."
