Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Did You Know?
Did you know? Jewelry of jet was the haute jewelry of the Victorian era. — Fallin
Sirius was pleased that his tryouts were last, as it had given him time to scope out the prospective competition in other houses. It was also particularly fun, because he was friends with two of the other captains, and now had collected information that would help him poke fun at them later.
He stood in front of his would-be players, feeling rather like a general surveying an army. In front of him was a closed box of the Quidditch balls and bats, and an array of black or white newsboy caps, enough for each of the prospective players. "Ladies, gentlemen — I am your Slytherin Quidditch captain, Sirius Black." (Whether they got on the team or not, he was still their captain — and also their Head Boy. He was adorned with badges.)
"We are hosting tryouts for chasers, beaters, and a keeper today. If you are trying out for multiple positions, you will take it in turns."
"Chasers must complete a circle of the pitch, passing the quaffle at least five times. Afterwards, you will queue up on your broomstick to take shots at our keeper tryouts — keepers, your role is to stop people from scoring. Seems simple, right?"
Sirius grinned, feeling rather sharklike. ''But we cannot forget about the bludgers — everyone will take a black or white cap from me before they take to the skies. Beaters, your role is to aim for members of the team which has the opposite-colored cap to yourself — while protecting your own players. You have fifteen minutes before we swap roles."
And with that, Sirius began handing out the caps and gesturing for people to take to the sky.

Black was dripping in badges, it seemed. He took one of the caps and and kicked off to complete the chaser trial. When the fifteen minutes for him to switch tryout drills were up, he touched down.
Caspian kicked off and did the keeper trial. There were students older than him but he was determined to see this through. When the fifteen minutes were up, he dismounted.
Leonard walked onto the pitch with a bat and a school broom, which he dragged behind him unceremoniously. He swallowed. His face was hard with determination, and the knuckles of his hand, wrapped tightly around the bat, were white.
This vagabond summer had fed into a dream of his; it involved Quidditch stardom. More importantly, it involved tons of galleons; So much gold that the pockets of his shorts would rip from the weight of the smooth coins.
If only there was not an obstacle already mounting before him; his thoughts swam between his dreams and his anxieties and the knowledge that he was a lousy flyer. In the pension in Hogsmeade where he spent his childhood clinging to the skirts of whoever would humor him, there had been no thought for honing that sort of skill; there had been no broom that was good for more than brushing away dirt.
Nonetheless, he donned a white cap for beater tryouts and took to the air. He just about managed to stay on course. But he was strong, was he not? He could carry heavy things up and down flights of stairs all day, and when he struck at the boys who lived on Bonham Close and tried to taunt him, they stumbled and scattered. So he hit the Bludgers with all his might and precision and tried his best not to fall off the broom.

Then, feeling a bit more secure in his abilities to stay in the air, he joined the chaser tryouts, passing the quaffel in a circle from player to player in the air.
