Appearance: Bastian is his mother’s son. Round faced with warm brown skin and tight coiled hair, there is very little to mark him as an Urquart. Unlike his sisters, he maintains his natural hair texture. He’s started growing a mustache and he hopes it will make him look childish. From the side, the slope and bridge of his nose match his father and he has the same furrowed brow when he’s concentrating. He also has his father’s smirk.
Bash is 5’5” and wiry, he can’t keep weight on or build the musculature of his father. He is right-handed. As the only son, Bash avoided hand-me-downs and takes pride in his appearance. His clothing his always in impeccable shape.
History: 1875 - Sebastian Balthazar Urquart is born June 17 to Balthazar and Mary Urquart. He is the fourth child and only son. As the only boy and baby, there are equal parts pressure and pampering. From what he will later learn, his parent’s interracial love was illegal. Frankly, Americans are monsters.
1878 – Mother is distracted by one of his sisters, a frustrated three-year-old Bash, shatters multiple dishes in his first show of magic. He hasn’t stopped competing for his parents’ attention since.
1882 – Delight, Bastian’s favorite sister is off to Hogwarts. While he’s proud of her, he’s less than thrilled to be stuck at home with the twins. Topaz is fine, he likes her, but Ruby is just annoying. When he’s in a really foul mood, Bastian reminds her that he’ll be the one inheriting when she’s old and unloved.
1884 – Someone of import dies, an uncle dies in the plague (Bash is sorry for his cousins, but takes emotional cues from his father), and father is voted Minister of Magic. While Bash does his best to be humble, there are few pleasures in life as great as seeing his father sworn into his office. In September, the twins leave for Hogwarts and Bash is an only child for the first time. He loves it.
1885 – Father is mistaken for dead which is the worst thing Bash can imagine. This idea is swiftly tested. Mother is bitten by a snake and dies quickly. The worst discovery is that she could have been cured with a simple antidote, if only there were a healer or even a muggle doctor at hand. Sebastian is in no way too proud to grieve, his mother held the opinionated family together, she was their backbone. Bash is determined to become a man that would make his mother proud.
1886- Still heartbroken over his mother’s loss and concerned over his father’s obvious attempts at courting, Sebastian is off to Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin. He’s certain the Hat is malfunctioning, but finds it amusing that there is now an Urquart in every House. Cousin Elijah approaches him and, happy to have family in the same house, Bash is quick to fall in line. The twins are united in their loathing of father’s intended, and, while Bash does not want a new woman in the family, he wants his father to smile again. He’s quick to try and charm Miss Lovegood.
1887 – The worst year of his life, part two. Miss Lovegood leaves father at the altar, which tells you all you need to know about her character. What a waste of charm. The upside is Topaz and Ruby are no longer thick as thieves. Come August, another tragedy strikes. As if flying tigers weren’t enough, Topaz is attacked by werewolves. While the family tries to keep the secret, father is forced to resign in September. As far as Bash is concerned, Ruby and their idiot cousin are to blame as much as Topaz is. ‘Things fall apart’ is the understatement of the century.
1888 - In his second year, Bash learns that several friends were with him because he was the Minister’s son. Those friends are quickly gone. Cousin Elijah has decided Bash no longer exists, which is insane because the two share a dormitory.
1890- Nearing his fifth year, Sebastian is determined to earn a victory for his family. Delight is building her own life, Topaz is a shell of herself, Ruby’s an emotional embarrassment, and Sebastian is feeling the pressure. If anyone is going to reclaim the family honor, it’s going to be him. He’s going to do it, starting with the OWLS.
