IC Ravenclaw Quidditch Tryouts '89

September 14th, 1889, before lunch — Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch
Citrine was incredibly stoked to be a Quidditch captain. She was hardly the first female one in the history of Hogwarts but it was still pretty big. She waited for all the potential new teammates to arrive at the pitch before beginning.

"Good morning, everyone!" She greeted cheerily. "Today we are looking to fill three positions! We need two chasers and a beater." She had quite a fun time setting up their obstacle course and hopefully they would have fun going through it. After all, Quidditch was a fun game!

"There is an obstacle course set up to emulate an actual games conditions. Potential chasers, you will need to fly through it while trying not to fumble a quaffle. Beaters, your job is to hit bludgers at the chasers to try and get them to fumble the ball. If you are trying out for both positions, simply trade off once you have been through it once! Good luck!" And with that, she bid for them to begin.

Please post once for each position you are trying out for. Make sure you have filled in the requisite form and have received a “like” from Kayte before posting! The deadline for all posts is 7pm EST on September 14th.

By posting in this thread, you agree to have your character present and whole regardless of what happens between the date of posting and the IC date listed.

Why was he doing this again?

Archer hovered on a broomstick he had borrowed from the school, his knuckles nearly white as he clutched a bat. Citrine's instructions had barely registered in his brain before those around him had already sped off to begin the obstacle course. He could wait his turn, if only to be able to gather up a bit more courage.

He had allowed a housemate to convince him to try out. He wasn't sure if the other Ravenclaw was hoping Archer would make a fool out of himself, or if he was really trying to be nice. Apparently, quidditch might help toughen him up. Was that really what he needed? He did enjoy flying and playing a modified version of the game with other London children. But was this really what would help his second year be more successful?

Still unconvinced, Archer decided he would at least give it a try.

When his name was called, he clenched his teeth and zipped off to begin the obstacle course. While he didn't seem to miss hitting any of the bludgers, the boy seemed reluctant to actually toss other children off of their broomsticks. It seemed he just missed most of the students who were trying out as chasers. If one watched closely, they might realize he was purposely aiming slightly to the side each time.

Maybe he really wasn't cut out for quidditch.

Look, it was now or never, wasn't it? The first week or so of classes had confirmed to Nelson that, solid as he was in some subjects, scraping through with even passes in others was... not hopeful. With any luck, he wouldn't fail out: but if he did, he certainly wanted to have gotten onto the quidditch team first. (If he didn't fail out, he needed quidditch to be a welcome distraction from his classes.)

His friends, though many of them Ravenclaws, were, by and large, not the quidditch sort. He hoped they didn't judge him too harshly for trying out. He hoped the captain, Miss Weasley, didn't judge him too harshly. Surely he had to be better than these first and second-years?

With the pressure of that, Nelson kicked off to tackle the obstacle course as a chaser.

He wasn't exactly sure how that had gone - he certainly hoped Miss Weasley hadn't spotted him fumbling the quaffle at all - but at least he supposed he was warmed up now, which would hopefully help his aim as he took up a spot as a beater.

He thought he'd rather be a beater, really. Well - not that he was especially picky. He'd be anything so long as it got him on the team. He'd transfigure himself into a broom if Miss Weasley wouldn't take him otherwise, and at least he'd see some sort of action.

But maybe he'd done enough with the bludgers to spare him that. They would see.

Archie had not, nor had he ever been, particularly inclined towards athletics. Though tall for his age and likely to shoot up in the coming years, he was lanky and lacked strength. Still, knowing that other boys in his house and year were trying out for quidditch was enough to push him to join the pitch in the late morning hours alongside his house-mates.

He was smart enough not to try out for beater. The thought of attempting to swing them against the force of the wind was enough to make his arms ache, so he instead grabbed a broom and headed in the direction of those aiming for the chaser position. He kicked off the ground after a moment and headed into the air, hoping he would not be too disappointing.

Citrine watched the people trying out with keen eyes. A couple of them were younger than she would have liked but she could work with that. Others were absolutely terrible. Once everyone had finished the trial, Citrine smiled at everyone. "You all did very well - I certainly have a lot to consider. Those that earned positions will be listed on the notice board outside the Great Hall on the fifteenth. Now, let's get lunch, shall we?"
