Hudson Woodcroft vs. Edric Umbridge
#1
2nd February, 1889 — Howler Stadium
Well, this was awkward. Stand-in judge as he was, Theo had not expected to have to face down two superiors in once blow. Not that he was doing the duelling, at least - but no one needed more reason to reprimand him in the Auror offices than they already had. With everything that had happened since his father, it had been... hard to care.

He presumed lingering too long on the rules would be something of an insult to the both of them, so Theo just gave them a nervous nod and said, swiftly, "Mr. Umbridge to cast first."

Hudson Woodcroft Edric Umbridge

#2
He felt a pang of sympathy for Mr. Gallivan, who looked far more nervous than him or Mr. Woodcroft. The dueling competition thus far had gone smoothly enough, but having his own duel - against another auror, for that matter - moderated by an auror-in-training had Edric convinced that Mr. Skeeter's recent divorce had left him scatterbrained.

After he bowed, Edric raised his wand and flashed a good-natured, if not slightly challenging smile towards his opponent. Then, with a quick flick of his wand and a low murmur, Edric attempted to conjure a heavy tornado-like gust around his opponent, intending to make it hard for Woodcroft to cast an accurate counter-spell.

It was not that long ago that Edric Umbridge had been a auror and not just the head of the department. If it had been the old Head Auror Hudson might be more worried, but he knew Edric. It would be an interesting duel. A good place to prove himself.

After bowing Hudson steadied himself and cast a simple shield charm about himself. Next round would be his advantage, for right now better to be smart about what he was doing.

#4
At least a shield charm made it an easy thing to judge. The Head Auror's winds billowed around Woodcroft, but could not get close enough to touch him, as long as his shield held firm.

Reluctantly, Theodore said: "The first round to Mr. Woodcroft - who can start the next."

Umbridge’s spell whirled around Hudson’s shield harmlessly until Gallivan determined that Hudson had the first point.

Confundo.” Hudson quietly cast, hoping to cause Edric to become too confused and disoriented to be able to cast a reasonable spell back.

#6
Amused, Edric attempted to disarm his opponent.

The Confundus Charm perhaps had not incapacitated Umbridge's abilities completely, but the disarming charm he shot did veer in rather the wrong direction. (Theo ducked.)

"The duel to Mr. Woodcroft," Theo declared, privately a little annoyed at this result.
