MacFusty vs. Plant Heiress: if Fitz Prewett were a betting man, he thought as he reviewed the rules for the young ladies' benefit, he would certainly wager on the former. Actually, he was a betting man. Lach's sister was decidedly pretty besides.

While each woman got a charming smile, as was his way, it was Miss MacFusty whose smile grew into something closer to a grin as he bid her begin.

It had been a while since the last time she had dueled, however Tilda's found when she woke up this morning, she had been looking forward to the rounds. She'd rather had a lot of pent up energy to spend anyways; and what better way to do so than a legally sanctioned duel?

With a smile and a nod of affirmation toward Mr. Prewett Tilda curtseyed to Miss Montague before flicking her wand towards her in a stinging jinx.

Benevolence had to admit that her ability to spell cast had a focus on spells that improved her plants.
Still Benevolence gave an affirmative to Miss MacFusty and prepared to cast. Casting the defense position she attempted to trans figure a nearby chair into a wall of freckled clematis to protect her from the spell

In less skillful pairings, Fitz knew, it was often speed that was the deciding factor. Indeed, the wizard was not quite certain what Miss Montague was angling for, as Miss MacFusty's stinging hex hit her far too swiftly.

"The first point to Miss MacFusty," he announced, after looking to see that the dark-haired witch was none the worse for wear. "Miss Montague, when you are ready."

He had to remind herself she was here to support the institute and not for the actual competition. Dueling might not be her forte but she still wanted to win!

Perhaps, the wizard thought, he ought to put a small wager on this bout after all. As he had predicted, Miss MacFusty proved victorious, even if the shield repelled the confounding charm and hit a member of the audience rather than her opponent. To Miss Montague's credit, the spell worked a treat, and Fitz motioned for the healer on duty to see to the poor gentleman.

"Congratulations to Miss MacFusty," the wizard announced with a grin and a nod of acknowledgement at Lach's sister, "who will progress to the next round of the tournament."
