Appearance:

Taking after his father’s darker features, Holden has dark brown hair that he keeps cut short, mostly for ease at work. His eyes shift between hazel and green, but tend to always have that green tint to him. His face is boyishly handsome and he prefers to sport a bit of stubble at all times because it helps him look older. His build is athletic and lean, built for his work. He stands at 5’11” and is left handed predominantly, but can wield his wand with both if needed.

History:

1867 Holden Frederick joins the growing Cartwright family as the fourth child and much anticipated second son.

1871 Henrietta is born. Holden is indifferent to the new addition, but is glad she’s the last one.

1873 Holden shows his first sign of magic when out riding with his father and is bucked from the horse. He flies off but bounces as if in a bubble safely back to the ground.

1876 Hortensia heads off to Hogwarts leaving Holden and Henrietta as the only children at home.

School Year
1878-79 Finally it’s his turn to head off to Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor. Holden half-expected Slytherin, but Gryffindor is fine.

School Year
1879-80 Second year isn’t anything spectacular. As far as academics go, Holden proves to be a natural at DADA, Transfiguration and Potions, but the latter is a given, considering the family business. Can’t sell them if you can’t use one properly. He’s not the best at Charms or Herbology, but manages alright with help from his older sister.

1880-81 For his electives, Holden adds Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures. They seem interesting. He tries out for the house quidditch team, but does’t make it.

1881-82 Fourth year brings about a couple of big changes. First, Holden finally makes the team quidditch team as keeper, ayyy. Secondly, now that Hector is graduated and working in the family business, Holden is starting to realize his role as second son gives him some desirable flexibility in his life; it’s this year he decides he wants to push himself to become an auror.

1882-83 Henrietta joins him at Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff. That’s a good place for her, Holden has become accustomed to his space in Gryffindor. Holden busts his ass with the help of a Good Friend, to pass all of his OWLs so he can take the appropriate NEWTs for the AIT program. He manages to keep up with quidditch too, which is a bit of a miracle.

1883-84 Attached to the auror idea, Holden somewhat buckles down in an attempt to make an impressive bid for the training program. In having only kept the core classes necessary for the program, he’s hoping he can focus on what he needs.

1884-85 Oh holy shit seventh year. The previously laid back second son is simultaneously excited for and dreading NEWTs. Having just the focus of the core classes helped him manage his grades and quidditch, but it’s a close call in Charms and Herbology. Fortunately he scrapes by and mid-summer is accepted into the Auror Train Program.

1885-86 Elbow deep in his first year of training, Holden is thriving. His quidditch reflexes help as do his people skills. Everything comes to a screeching halt when Hector up and disappears on New Year’s Day. What the actual fuck. The house is chaotic and frankly, Holden uses every excuse in the book to stay out of it for as long as possible. Thankfully work provides a suitable distraction. Father puts in every effort into finding Hector and Holden figures he’s useless until he’s fully trained.

1886-88 His training continues well, the only thing he kind of struggles in is concealing, but he gets the hang of it eventually. Father dies mid-1888 and Holden is starting to wonder if he just went through the entire program for nothing; somebody has to run Cartwright Cauldrons and he’s the logical choice, forget that he has zero interest.

1889-Present Holden is allowed to continue on with his work, but things in the family are getting a little tense. With his new contacts in the ministry and Auror department, he hires a private investigator (or three) to locate his brother; they all come up empty-handed and now he’s starting to think he’s going to have to take a whack at it personally. Fuck.

Certainly one of his brothers-in-law could take over the company?
