Leonard Wenlock | Father [1825-1884]Appearance: Ainsley is perfectly average in most everything when it comes to appearance. Standing at an even five foot three inches, she’s not one to have any sort of domineering stature based simply on height. Her build is a tad on the skinny side compared to most and without having born any children, she lacks any accentuated curves without the aid of a tightly tied corset. Her complexion is blemish and mark free across a slender and angular sort of face. She views the world through dark and keen eyes that match the same dark brown hair that is always seen pulled back in a basic and simple style. She has no true preference when it comes to her attire, whether it be robes are simple and basic dresses befitting of her station. She does tend to favor darker colors in rich jewel tones, however, and is rarely seen without a necklace and a ring or two. She is right handed for the most part but has been known to use her left from time to time if needed.
Lindsay Wenlock neé --- | Mother [1833]
Descendant of Bridget Wenlock, Famous Arithmancer
History:
1854: Leonard and Lindsay welcome their first, and only, child. The pregnancy and birth took quite a toll on the frail Scottish woman but they loved their daughter dearly. The thought of the Wenlock line ending with Ainsley crossed Leonard’s mind but he didn’t dare risk losing his wife so they put their efforts and focuses solely into their daughter’s care.Personality: Eccentric. Aloof. Intelligent. Perfectionist. Numbers Lady.
1859: Ainsley proved to be a rather bright and intelligent little girl from the start and took to homeschooling quite well. When her father was not working on his latest Arithmancy books, he was helping Lindsay in tutoring their daughter. He was quite pleased when she showed a keen interest in numbers, knowing she very much would follow in the long line of arithmancers of the Wenlock family. Hopefully even living up to her middle name and proving to be just like Bridget Wenlock.
1861: On the morning of her seventh birthday, Ainsley showed her first sign of magic. Growing increasingly annoyed with a puzzle not going into place as she wanted, the entire thing erupts into a sudden burst of flames that quickly extinguished itself once there is nothing left of said puzzle.
1865: It’s time to go off to Hogwarts! With years of hearing about the magical school, the girl can hardly wait and almost forgets to kiss her parents goodbye. Giving them a sheepish smile when she remembers such a thing, she bounces back to them before fleeing back to the train. A bit surprisingly, she finds herself sorted into Gryffindor. There’s a glimmer of disappointment from the girl, having hoped to follow in the steps of her great aunt and into Hufflepuff, but she quickly moves along and decides change can be good. She proves to be quite the friendly girl and ends up with a good amount of friends despite her often goofy and aloof sort of behaviors.
1867: It comes as little surprise when Ainsley promptly adds Arithmancy to her class schedule. She also decides to add Ancient Runes.
1869: Just before returning to Hogwarts, Ainsley receives a letter stating she’s been made Prefect! Her father, having been a prefect himself, rejoices with her and treats Ainsley to a new owl of her own! She ends up with a Great Horned Owl that she names Septimus.
1870: Having done quite well on her OWLs across the board, it makes decided which classes she keeps quite hard. She ends up keeping Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Astronomy, Charms, DADA, Potions and Transfiguration. It’s a full schedule but she can’t pass up the number seven.
1871: Ainsley’s final year approaches and she can hardly believe it when she receives a Head Girl badge. To takes the position seriously and feels she has the best year yet at Hogwarts. It’s become clear she has quite the knack for Arithmancy and even challenges the professor in skill with the subject. Having done her own arithmancy work, she finds she’s destined for one true love in her life. The idea is a bit nerve wracking but exhilarating as well.
1872: The end of term comes and Ainsley feels she did quite well on her NEWTs. At the COB, she meets quite the dashing gentleman. Six years her senior, Mr. Clarence Harrington is the perfect gentleman with just the right mix of intelligence and humor. Ainsley instantly falls for him and the two begin officially courting before the season is out.
1874: With two years of courting behind them, Mr. Harrington proposes to Ainsley! She couldn’t be more excited and instantly says yes. Both families are happy with the pairing and preparations begin.
1875: Unfortunately, a wedding does not happen. Just a month shy of their nuptials, Clarence is killed in a freak carriage accident along with his mother. Ainsley, unsurprisingly, is crushed. She goes into full mourning for the man she was convinced she was destined to be with and pretty much remains locked up at home. She begins working tirelessly on her arithmancy work alongside her father, the two eventually publishing papers and whatnot on the subject.
1877: The great exposure happens and the Wenlock’s find themselves moving to Hogsmeade with the rest of the worried wizarding population. They settle in a little cottage in North Bartonburg on Birch Lane. Ainsley continues with her Arithmancy work, forgoing most society events despite her parents’ many protests. She was convinced she had one true love in her life and he’s dead so what’s the point?
1879: With her twenty-fifth birthday come, Ainsley applies for the Arithmancy Professor position at Hogwarts. With papers published and her namesake, she’s easily accepted for the position and ends up set to start at the school for the 1879-1880 term.
1884: The plague and fires hit. Unfortunately, Leonard is lost in this same year. It devastated the Wenlock women. They pull together, now having to see to their own needs and finances, they’re just lucky that Leonard was a stickler for savings and they were left with quite a decent sum after his death. And though it will mean being away more, Ainsley applies to become Gryffindor’s Head of House. The boost in income will help see to her mother’s continued comfort. Though a smaller woman, she handles the position rather well and her house quickly learns that while she can be lenient and a friend of sorts, she isn’t one to be crossed either and doles out punishments when needed and as she sees fit.
1888: Nearly a decade has passed since Ainsley started teaching and she couldn’t imagine life any other way. There’s still a distinct loneliness over her loss of Clarence but she’s made the best of it. Those in Gryffindor have become her family easily enough and Hogwarts is just as much a home as the little cottage she shares with her mother in the summers is.
