Nicodemus Dursley vs. Iphigenia Adebayo
#1
July 23rd, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic

The day seemed to be dragging on for an eternity but hopefully this duel wouldn't, not least because there was a girl involved. Ugh. When would they be banned again? He thought it oughtn't to be necessary to go over the rules again but he did anyway. Children were notoriously moronic. Mr. Dursley, please begin.

After observing the niceties, Nico decided to go with a disarming charm against the older student.

She had done very well in her initial bout, although Mr. Dursley, she knew, would not be as easy an opponent as a second year. Still, Genia was confident she could come out on top.

Going for efficacy over showmanship, at least for her first 'defence', the Slytherin cast a stinging hex.

Charles resented being the one to oversee the duel that had resulted in this useless boy being stood before him. In fairness his last opponent hadn't been any better hence the result but logic and reason didn't stop Charles from lamenting as the boy failed a basic spell and took the stinging hex full on. He also resented the girl for being an unfortunate consequence of a society that no longer protected women from unnatural acts of aggression and in fact encouraged them. It made him think fleetingly of how few women of fertile age remained who were suitably restrained and eschewed the violence of dueling. This then made him think of Tatiana and that was again a particularly sore subject to him of late.

Miss Adebayo wins the first round and will begin the second. There was at least only a subtle hint of his souring mood in the way he delivered the verdict.

Genia allowed herself only a brief, small smile of pride before readying herself for her attack.

"Densaugeo!" the young witch cast.

When Charles heard the two incantations he couldn't stop himself from openly grimacing. In the first split second of the reaction he hadn't sorted out in his head which voice had said what but the idea of either spell hitting the young lady was enough to make him uncomfortable. It also forced him to remember that duel where she had used that hex... He should have recognized that red flag for what it was...

Thankfully he didn't have to actually see anyone vomit slugs this time and by the time Mr. Dursley was starting to resemble a beaver he had neutralized his facial features. He was about to put a stop to the spell before it started to get nauseating to look at the boy but he wasn't quite fast enough to stop the boy from impaling his hand slightly on his own front teeth. Charles wasn't sure if he was acting on a reflex and trying to clap a hand over his mouth or if he thought he could grab his teeth and stop them from growing through force but either way the result was he essentially bit himself badly, boring a decently sized hole in his hand from what Charles could see.

He put a stop to the hex but he wasn't going to be the one to sort the boy's teeth out. Miss Adebayo is the winner. Mr. Dursley, I advise you to go see the nurse before anyone else gets impaled. The duel had ended in such sudden chaos that Charles had forgotten to be bitter about the winner being female, he was just glad it was over.
