Basil didn’t know why he felt the need to communicate to his seventh year intern that he was departing. He usually kept personal matters from his students altogether, but he supposed since she was helping him with his research endeavors it seemed necessary to leave her with a little note at the least.

Miss Chang –

I’m sorry to depart so abruptly. A family matter has arisen that I must attend to. If you need to reach me, don’t hesitate to send an owl and keep up the good work with your training.

Professor Foxwood.

A regal-looking snow owl arrived in the post early morning. It waited patiently with for the recipient to retrieve a parchment scroll and neat little package attached to its leg. The package wrapped up a pretty red tin with Chinese characters of gold. Inside were twelve tea satchels with strong honey and chamomile aromatics, along with neatly written brewing instructions in Miss Chang's handwriting. Before one could notice, the owl had jumped over to snatch a scone from a nearby plate before it fled out the window.

Dear Professor Foxwood,

Thank you so kindly for your note. I must admit that it caused me great concern to hear about your sudden departure, as I know it must be for a very important matter. I hope everything goes well. Know that the students and I will manage quite well with the instructions and readings you provided, and we eagerly wait for your return.

I thought you might like this special tea blend that is a staple in our family pantry. It is quite similar to the Calming Draught, but the ginseng and wolfberries add healing properties. I like that it comes in a convenient-to-brew satchel, and have found it has a more pleasant, warming taste.

If I can be of any service, perhaps if you've forgotten any books or materials I can post to you, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
Miss Ida Chang

Basil had been absolutely touched on Thursday when an unfamiliar owl had brought him a package and return note from Miss Ida Chang. It had been difficult that first day home and much of it had been spent at his mother's bedside. He'd offered her the tea Miss Chang had sent and, for what it was worth, Mama Foxwood adored it. A few days later, after much kerfuffle (and a haircut!) Basil finally found a moment to sit down and reply to Miss Chang. He 'borrowed' Atticus' owl and sent it off with a small roll of parchment tied around its leg.

Miss Chang –

I very much appreciated your response and the token. I plan to return for classes in the morning.

Professor Foxwood.

P.S. - My mother quite adored the tea and has asked me to inquire about its origin so she may send for more.
