I know we had planned to meet at dawn tomorrow, but unfortunately I have need to reschedule. Apparently your brother has gotten himself into some trouble, and I must be present to ensure he does not meet his untimely end.

I propose the 3rd of April as an alternative. Refuse, and I cannot ensure your brother's well-being.

Personally I consider our duel more important but for the sake of my mother who would be grief-stricken, I shall accept a delay. However, I cannot agree to April 3rd. Dawn on the 27th is the very latest I can accept.

For reasons I owe you no insight into, we must settle this without delay and I simply cannot turn up to work fresh from a duel.

Do not forget that I also have a job, one which requires my alertness at all times. If I'm to save your brother on the morning of the 26th, complete a day's shift afterwards, and then spend my brief off time dueling the next morning, how am I supposed to return to work that afternoon? Your life and death are not the only ones that I can afford to focus on.

If the 27th is the only suitable day between the 26th and the 3rd, might I suggest: the 4th of April? Or would having that long to ponder your own mortality send you down a spiral of cowardice and despair?

I cannot help but be intrigued by your eagerness to face death. I do not need an entire week, but am merely being considerate of your own schedule by suggesting a Saturday—something you seem incapable of dong in return. Could you not, with your influence, arrange to be off on a weekday? I would have no difficulty arranging for a Tuesday or Thursday off.

I will not be dueling tomorrow evening. Hospital shifts are long and grueling, and I do not have enough time in advance, nor enough time to clear it with my second, to clear my schedule for the rest of the day.

I must insist on the 3rd or 4th of April, once again.
