Macmillan,

I know we had planned to meet at dawn tomorrow, but unfortunately I have need to reschedule. Apparently your brother has gotten himself into some trouble, and I must be present to ensure he does not meet his untimely end.

I propose the 3rd of April as an alternative. Refuse, and I cannot ensure your brother's well-being.

Macnair,

Personally I consider our duel more important but for the sake of my mother who would be grief-stricken, I shall accept a delay. However, I cannot agree to April 3rd. Dawn on the 27th is the very latest I can accept.

For reasons I owe you no insight into, we must settle this without delay and I simply cannot turn up to work fresh from a duel.

Macmillan,

I was not aware that you worked Saturday morning. Surely a week is unlikely to change the circumstances—unless your confidence in Miss Lestrange is lacking so terribly that you believe she may accept my offer in the next week's time. I need until the 3rd.

Macnair,

I do not work Saturday mornings, I was informing you that of the days between the 26th and 3rd, only one is suitable.

I want this settled at once so I must insist upon Sunday. What is your objection to the 27th? Aside from cowardice, that is. You're not one of those Church of Magical Jesus freaks are you?

Macmillan,

Do not forget that I also have a job, one which requires my alertness at all times. If I'm to save your brother on the morning of the 26th, complete a day's shift afterwards, and then spend my brief off time dueling the next morning, how am I supposed to return to work that afternoon? Your life and death are not the only ones that I can afford to focus on.

If the 27th is the only suitable day between the 26th and the 3rd, might I suggest: the 4th of April? Or would having that long to ponder your own mortality send you down a spiral of cowardice and despair?

Macnair,

I thought you were higher ranking than your average healer, are you tell me you couldn't arrange to take the day off? Do you have so little influence or do you simply need the extra time to work up some courage?

Alternatively you can see my brother on his way, take a nap if you like, and I'll see you tomorrow evening. How does that sound to you?

Macmillan,

I cannot help but be intrigued by your eagerness to face death. I do not need an entire week, but am merely being considerate of your own schedule by suggesting a Saturday—something you seem incapable of dong in return. Could you not, with your influence, arrange to be off on a weekday? I would have no difficulty arranging for a Tuesday or Thursday off.

I will not be dueling tomorrow evening. Hospital shifts are long and grueling, and I do not have enough time in advance, nor enough time to clear it with my second, to clear my schedule for the rest of the day.

I must insist on the 3rd or 4th of April, once again.

Macnair,

I can arrange for March 30th.

Know that forcing me to take a day off work is the only victory you'll be celebrating.
